Re: Wii U Discussion
Cannot get over how fun mario kart is. The online is awesome and set up nicely. Doesn't take long at all to find games.
Started with 150cc and man, I am getting spanked. Tough tough racing.
My two online races I came in last... Lol don't remember mario kart being so brutal! LolComment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Why can't all WiiU games be like MK8 where I can play all the audio thru my headset plugged into the gamepad while I mute the TV? My son's room is off my family room, and I like to play at night...this solves the issue. Simple.

My nephews and I are still playing the "unlocking game." All characters are unlocked. Just trying to unlock parts now.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Just played this last night at at friends house with a few drinking buddies. Best local multiplayer experience I've had in years... Maybe an exception would go to Fight Night, but those type of experiences have been very few and far between.
My only gripe is that the gamepad has to mirror the TV during split screen. I'm guessing that it's probably a frame rate thing, but it would be awesome if you could do three player split-screen, with 2 on the tv, and the other person with the gamepad screen all to themselves.
Either way, the game is an absolute blast, and very addictive. The new item set up lends itself to a more fair competition, while still managing to maintain the classic MarioKart balance of chaos, fun, and a little bit of luck.
I wouldn't necessarily gush all over the graphics, but it is certainly a beautiful game. Probably up there with any last gen game in that department. The courses look great and seem to be set up very well. I don't see myself having nearly as many "hated" tracks as I have had with some MKs in the past.
We played a decent bit online as well, 100% smooth for the few hours we spent with it last night. The only negative was that we got hung up in the menu a couple of times with no way out. Not a full on freeze, but there were 2-3 instances where we had to back out to the Wii home screen and restart the game. Now, more than everComment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Big up to Nintendo who added Mario Kart 8 to my Club Nintendo and allowed me a free game. That and 4 player MK with friends last night and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Jgainsy, what do you mean mirror on game pad? You have 3 options even during split screen.
One shows the leaders and their items and the horn.
One shows the map.
One does mirror if you select it.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Is there any option for the map to be on the tv screen? That's a bit disappointing if not.
Multi-player against one other person is great, but when you add a third person, the graphics take a pretty good hit. Plus, of course it's a bit more difficult to see all what's around you.
Once you unlock a few cups, that's when the anti-gravity Nintendo boasted about really shows up. For someone who has a tendency to get a little motion sickness, I'll have to make sure my gaming sessions don't run too long.
Overall, it's a been one of my more enjoyable gaming experiences on any of the next gen systems. My kids and their friends have had a wonderful time.

Re: Wii U Discussion
I forgot all about this Deluxe Digital Promotion and the free game with Mario Kart 8 counts towards it, so you will get $5 in eShop credit. If you got MK8 digitally that would be another $5.

Re: Wii U Discussion
So if you're going with 2 players, one can use the gamepad to race while the other player gets the entire unsplit TV screen. Or if you're going with 3 players, 2 people get use the TV split just two ways, and the 3rd player gets the full gamepad screen for their view.
For example, my girlfriend doest even look at the TV when we play together, she uses the gamepad. IMO, it would be ideal if I could play using the the tv for only my view, and my gf would get the unsplit view on the gamepad. Now, more than everComment
