    Re: Nintendo E3 2011 Discussion Thread (Press - 6/7)

From what I've read, a lot of people are just kind of confused by what the Wii U right now seeing as it doesn't have any part of a real game to show off. Looks like Sony was the company to win this year because of the PSVita getting a glowing reception.

I really want to see what they do with the controller screen with a non-DS style game, even though I doubt I'll buy this thing anytime soon. It would be nice to see what it really can do.

      Farewell Friend Codes

Ubisoft recently told MTV Multiplayer that the [Wii U] system will get rid of the maligned Friend Codes system in favor of a single online identity (think: Gamertag). Players will also be able to build friends lists without the laborious process of swapping serial numbers.

Friend codes was one of the dumbest ideas ever.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto (probably known best as the senior producer on Chibi Robo) we needn't have worried.

Miyamoto told GamePro that the Wii U will only support one WiiPad, explaining that if the company had wanted to do multiple touchscreens it would have found a way to let players use 3DS systems with the new console.

Miyamoto didn't rule out the possibility of letting you take your WiiPad to a friends house and linking up play somehow, but it doesn't seem to be actively in the works at the moment.
Seems an odd decision, I guess the wireless tech they are using can't handle 2?

I like it. No cost for extra controllers, especially if you are upgrading from the Wii.

So damn all the possibilities of having two people use one of the new controllers at the same time, just so you aren't tempted by the option of buying another controller?

Seriously? The console being incapable of supporting two controllers is a good thing because it saves you from buying a second? What?

Perhaps everyone at Nintendo suffered a massive brain injury. This makes no sense to me...we are going to make the next gen of social console that locally can only be played by....one person? The only thing I would imagine they are going to do is have everyone else use wiimotes?

BTW in that interview he said at some point if they wanted people to use more than one touch screen they would have found a way to link it to the 3DS....ummmmmm...why didn't they?

So it's true. Wow, there goes all those co-op ideas.

Actually, not totally. One person can be on the TV, another on his WiiPad.

No 4 player local (split screen) FPS.

Does seem odd, and at first I was enraged. But the more I think, it really is still two screens (unless you're getting kicked off by Daddy to watch the game) because the Pad & the TV.

Then what's the point of selecting plays on it like in the Madden talk? You're not hiding plays from anyone!

That being said, I can still see myself buying one.

Whatever happened to "if you get caught looking at the other guy's plays, they get a free shot to your arm as hard as they can"? Wasn't that, like, standard house rules? Always worked great for us....

Major fail, and puts more emphasis why they are trying to market it all about U

Cause only YOU in the same room can enjoy the systems major selling point.

I am not going to judge until more is out, but it seems so strange. My 10 yr old loves mario and most of nintendo so we will probably get one for him (and I can play Zelda HD as well).
