    Mulitple Xbox 360's, Netflix, etc

Hello. I've attempted to get answers on this on the MS forums with no luck.

So my wife & I are going to cut cable because we don't really watch a lot, and we are considering a second device for the house. Currently, we have a 360, one XBL Gold account (mine) along with Netflix. She is not a gamer, so she just wants some device to be able to do it all.

We want to add a secondary device but want to minimize costs. I understand the 360 has always been weird about multiple XBL accounts, sharing media, etc, so my question: Is there a way to have 2 Xbox 360's both running Netflix from my Gold account? Would she need to get her own Gold account? Would her account be able to sync to my Netflix account? Or will she have to purchase a Gold + Netflix account for her own?

We are looking into a couple of options: another 360, a PS3, or possibly an iPad. We would really like to minimize costs and a bare-bones Xbox seems to be the best choice, but not if MS will nickel & dime us with multiple account subscriptions.

you cant be logged in twice at the same time on live...so that kills u both being on netflix at the same time with the same gold acct on 2 diff xboxes. if i were u id get a ps3 and use netflix on that. free accounts for online access so no subscription necessary to anything other than netflix(which netflix can stream 2 streams at once). that way u get both systems so u can enjoy all the games youd like on both systems, u also get a bluray player in the ps3, and you get ur netflix working in multiple rooms.

ur other cheaper option is a bluray player which has stream access to netflix. u can find one around $80+. or also a set top media box which can also get u stream access to netflix.

Blu Ray player would be the cheaper way to go.

Ipad cost more then a console and if you watching Netflix on an Ipad, you better have that thing plugged in, because if not you going to drain that battery after 1 movie.

Yeah, I just bought a new BD player the other night since my old one kicked the bucket and Netflix runs pretty good on it. I bought the Panny 210 for $129 at Best Buy on sale.

The answer to your problem is a Roku.

Otherwise, no, you need gold accounts on both. Can get them cheaper usually on Amazon than straight subscribing. We had this challenge at my house for a little while, and we just moved a thumb drive between the living room and bedroom with my profile on it to determine which had access to the content.

This is one of the reasons I bought a PS3 instead of a second xbox. I was not about to pay for a second xbox live account.

Re: Mulitple Xbox 360's, Netflix, etc

Buying a 360 would get you 2 years of live before matching the price of the PS3 3-4 years if you buy membership cards when they're on sale... and with the new portable profiles it might be even easier to use just 1 Live account anyways. Other benefit of the PS3 would be a Blu-Ray player... but you can also just get a Blu-Ray player with access to Netflix for half the price of either console, if not cheaper.

Don't see either gaming consoles being a real option if you are trying to make this as cheap as possible. Still think a Roku is your best option, as little as $49, and more features than a 360 sans games, simpler to use, and no additional fees. The $59 version on sale for $45 right now.

If all you're looking for is a way to stream Netflix in another room, Roku is definitely the answer.

Hey, thanks for the advice people. Seems M$ has nickel & dimed there way out of a sale. Upon reading some responses it really made no sense for me to invest into a second console.

It happens, these business models and some costs in general just make it not make very much sense for some use cases like this one. In our house for example it didn't make any sense to spend the money on a second iPad for my wife. Kindle Fire solved that. Didn't make any sense to buy a second $250+ Revue (at the time) for our bedroom... So we got a Roku. In your case, even if the up front costs were reasonable for the expected use, the subscription fees aren't. Matter of finding what will be e better fit now.
