Re: Xbox One
Well there are others like Ratchet & Clank, The Order, etc besides those two...there's a ton really. I can't think of any big ones really for Xbox One except Forza and Gears really...and Gears seems oriented to multiplayer more which I am not really a fan of as much anymore.
But then I'm not as big of a believer as many that it's all about first party games that makes a system. If I was I wouldn't have just sold my Wii U heh.
I enjoy Xbox One for the entire package as a whole system, and that is even outside of games (as a media hub).
It's all opinion so I don't want to spend too much time but the original point centered around new ips which Rachet and clank is not and the order was mediocre.
Gears has a great campaign and great multiplayer though. Game play wise.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yes. The horde mode in gears 2 and 3 was much better progression wise. This installment was totally centered around a ridiculous grind for RNG packs. Very disappointing.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Gears of War 4 campaign is excellent. Game overall is excellent and will buy Gears of War 5 day one when the time comes.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Okay. That definitely sucks. Even worse, since MP is usually the main focal point for Microsoft, you would think that would be the last thing they allow to be screwed up.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Microsoft really should bring back RYSE and make it a regular series, I enjoyed the heck out of that game and actually saw it through to the end, a rarity for me.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Xbox One
Yeah, i've seen The Order brought up here and elsewhere like it's one of the pillars of Sony's first party development, console wars bring out quite the revisionist history (at least Dan's been consistent in his relative love for that game).
The stuff w/ Scalebound doesn't bother me as I don't really get hyped for upcoming releases outside of Madden, console gaming is mostly third parties, EA Access and Play Anywhere for me. Sony declined to compete for my business, will be back for the PS5 where hopefully some of those things are rectified.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I wouldn't say MS gets cold feet or something and bails, I think cancellations happen in dev. Look at Doom 4, that got cancelled. \
I think it's better MS kills bad games vs. releases a horrible game that we all rip on, you know? They can't be trying to lose all that money without releasing a game....Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Gameplay is the weakest aspect but not because it's bad. The gameplay itself is very good and the gunplay is very responsive and feels good. The plat-forming is simple like most games but good.
The problem was that there simply wasn't enough of it and the design decisions were bad. The boss fights and mini battles against the three werewolves at a time were QTE and dodge/shoot encounters which were very disappointing. The game was short. Took me around 14 hours on the hardest difficulty but I also take my time with most games, especially if it's linear. Several chapters were just cut-scenes. The stealth section was bad not because it was stealth but because you would fail and start over when detected. It should have just evolved into a gun fight. The black bars were also a bad design decision, especially at the top of the screen because it blocked your view of enemies in the distance when engaged in shootouts. Weapons were also underwhelming.
Everything else except for the gameplay design decisions were excellent and the game ended with a sequel clearly in mind. Basically, everything is pretty much excellent and if the few negatives were to be rectified, game could easily hit a 9/10 and be much more popular.
I look at Ryse in almost the exact same way. Biggest negative about Ryse was the gameplay in that it was very repetitive because it was constantly the same thing over and over. The counters being color coded to match the buttons on the Xbox One controller were awesome in my opinion but the fighting itself was unresponsive at times and the depth in the battle system was non-existent. Game was also short but I think it took me 10-12 hours to finish on the hardest difficulty.
Not to clutter this thread but both of these games have a lot in common and didn't deserve the low scores that they received by critics and gamers in my opinion. If anything, both are underrated and quite honestly, like with every game due to overexposure and overhype, both games were not seen as living up to either but in fairness, I think that's more on the gamers themselves and social media that do nothing but do that with nearly every single game.
Would love a sequel to BOTH of these games and yes, I still believe that 1887 is RAD's third game in development. Hope it turns out to be true.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah, MS really needs to step up the diversity of their lineup. I miss the OG and early 360 eras, where they would take chances on new IP.
MS has two large and talented AAA studios (343 and Coalition) that they need to unshackle from Halo and Gears and let them take a crack at new IP. They also own some great Rare IP that could use a AAA budget.XBL: Mean Greene

The one main difference between Sony and Microsoft is that it's been said way too many times that Microsoft tends to interfere where as Sony rarely if ever does. One cancelled game and one shutdown studio this gen by Sony compared to at least three cancelled games and more than three studios being shut down completely by Microsoft.
Majority of Microsoft's games are usually multi-player online based but then they try to get the developer to squeeze in a single player campaign halfway through the game without giving them extra money or time to do so. This is more about other games but also has to do with Scalebound as it was originally shown and said to be a single player action/RPG but was later changed due to Microsoft involving themselves into the project.
I look at it this way - if you're going to pay a developer to make a game for you, once you come to terms and agree on all aspects, simply stay the hell out of the developer's way.Comment
