I think it's supposed to be any games, but we don't know if any Xbox One games will be out early.

If the PS4 is truly more powerful and shows better graphics down the road, that's even more reason for me to start with XB1. Then I can enjoy another upgrade in a few years when I get my PS4.

But I think over time the games will look similar on both, about as it is now.
The truly more powerful has already been confirmed by specs and launch games especially multiplats. 1080p to 720p that seems legit to me. Games already look better now and the gap will continue to widen down the road.

so far that gap is in one game where they got dev kits and tools late and didn't have time to optimize it. Then there is a smaller gap on battlefield and then every other has no difference.

as far as the gap getting wider I doubt that as the system that is harder to develop for will show a larger improvements as they learn the in and outs of the system.

After the second viewing, I'm convinced that the launch titles/early next gen titles will not be blowing me away on either console. Graphically, I guess my expectations were a little high for this early on. On a smaller monitor, everything looks pretty good. But on the tv, I was less than impressed. From further away, it looks "better", but still very similar to this gen.
Have you seen some uncompressed gamersyde videos on your home HDTV?

Killzone and NBA 2K at least are "true" next gen material. I've also downloaded the 1080p 60fps PS4 BF4 multiplayer video from eurogamer and watched it on my HDTV. Almost can't stand looking at current gen games anymore...

You're right, specs wise PS4 has the distinction of being the more powerful system, but with time developers will get the best out of XB1 and that will narrow. Here's the better thought, in 2 years these launch games will look awful! :-)

Well I'd imagine the same could be said for both systems. In time, devs will harness the power of the PS4 as well and the games will look substantially better than the launch titles.

Regardless, both systems will look fantastic over the long haul.

Your reasoning is correct, I mentioned the XB1 because it appears to be the later of the two at the moment.

IMO from the vids I've seen both consoles are underwhelming visually. I saw a comparison vid of BF4 on current gen vs next gen(for both consoles) and to me it looks similar to when you go from a cheap HDTV to playing on a more expensive one. It's basically the same, but one is more sharp, clean, whatever the word is.

I know developers have barely tapped into the potential of these systems, but I guess I still expected a bigger leap.

Truly, I don't think we will see the true graphics output for at least the first year. Maybe not even until the 360/PS3 are phased out. The developers will get used to things and a couple years from now we will be amazed at the difference from a first year game and a second or third year game.

                            Lets look at NBA2k Series...

                            2k8

and just for fun jump to 2k12

What people need to understand about the next gen consoles is the games aren't going to show much of their their power in graphics, especially initially, but rather animations, added capacity for multiplayer/enemies on the screen, enhanced resolution and most importantly AI. Graphics are going to better of course but we are getting to the point of diminishing returns in that area, whereas we have a long ways to go in the other areas cited above.

Like I said, I wouldn't worry about that too much. When developers are having using ports, the upgrades are going to be more like a 360/PC game. They'll look similar, but the PC is going to be sharper. The real difference is going to come with exclusives, where developers aren't being weighed down by previous consoles.

In all honesty, this was something I was worried about way back since the consoles were announced. There's no way that a game like Battlefield can use the console's potential (graphically, that is. There are a ton of significant upgrades elsewhere) when it has to be able to have all the same things on the 360 and PS3.
