    Re: Xbox One

Call me jaded, but Dead Rising isn't looking all that great to me anymore. Zombies repeating the same canned animations and strange physics in some of the videos, like the ones where the guy is driving through the horde of zombies - oh, and it's dark as **** (or as it is called nowadays: "gritty").

It just doesn't look as good as it did when it was first revealed. I think it's an animation problem more than anything; there is no real weight to the running/jumping animations of the player character, in fact it looks like they just straight copy/pasted the animation from Dead Rising 2. Same goes for the driving of the car and the lack of impact when you hit zombies; it just isn't convincing (maybe I've been spoiled by GTAV physics).

What annoys me most about DR3, though, is that they have a crazy amount of zombies onscreen, but you can see that outside of a certain radius around the player their AI is deactivated (presumably to save on processing) and they stand still like statues, until the player gets close enough and they suddenly begin to move. It's really annoying once you notice it because it's something you start to notice everywhere in the game. It's a shame that they couldn't find a better way of masking how limited the engine is at handling a lot of zombies on screen at once.

There are also the performance issues. The DF framerate tests show that the game isn't locked to 30fps at all and there are frequent dips, even sometimes to below 20. They probably should have pulled a Nintendo and delayed it to try to salvage a better performance.

    <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OKGmZLEEXWs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The game still looks somewhat entertaining, so I hope at least the performance issues get sorted out with a patch or something so that I can try it when I eventually get an Xbox.

I still remember playing Perfect Dark Zero on 360 thinking "Wow, this game looks awesome. OMG you can actually shoot this glass and it shatters....lol."

Now compared to later games, WTF was I thinking....lol.

The issue is that some games look like they were rushed just to make it in time for the launch and this is one of the main offenders (along with Forza).

Yeah. The sad thing is quite a few of those games and IPs had potential. I would love to see a newer Kameo on next-gen once developers get into the swing of things. Each game has it's issues though.

BF4 has crappy server issues due to being rushed. CoD looks like dog****. Ryse has terrible animations and lackluster gameplay. Dead Rising 3 looks horribly repetitive and has the other issues mentioned here.

I honestly think there's only 3 games coming out that would potentially be worth it. Forza, Killzone and NBA 2k14. If I had to make my predictions for launch games that come out head and shoulders above the others... it would be those three.

With all that being said... what the **** do I know? I'm just some random ******* online.

I remember being amazed by the parallax mapping in PDZ, but the frame rate wasn't great and it had a terrible art style.

Agreed. DR3's technical issues are certainly not to be excused, but welcome to launch software. I think the hype is clouding peoples memories of just how average (and even mediocre) launch software can be, not just technically, but across the board; the standouts are generally few and far between.

forza is pretty impressive. I had a chance to play It this week at a local futureshop that had 2 xbone demo's going. this is coming from someone who has a high end gaming pc and plays all the top pc racing games. I think a lot of people will be impressed with it.

I'm not a racing video game fan, but Forza 5 is calling me! Game looks incredible and the Drivatar (or whatever it's called) has me really into it.

A game can be rushed and graphics aren't necessarily what is affected.

Forza 5 basically provides nothing new to the series. Drivatars have been in the series since the first game. Open wheel cars, couple of new shiny tracks, anything else? It still has the same old pre-baked lighting, lack of weather, clueless AI, jerky animations, terrible fake flame effect and faked mirrors still on display from what we've seen so far.

It also has 14 tracks missing from Forza 4 and half the number of cars. It's shipping incomplete out of the box, and a large patch is required to be downloaded to even play the game.

This all screams "rushed to make launch" to me and that it's nothing more than another iterative update. It looks like we'll have to wait till Forza 6 to get that big jump. I'd have rather seen another PGR to be the racing game for the Xbox One launch and have them polish this game a little bit longer and to add at least some of the stuff that Forza fans have been asking for for years.

That being said, I don't think Forza 5 is worth 60 bucks if it's a prettier but heavily stripped-down Forza 4, and with the $500 investment in the console and too many ifs about the future of the franchise, I'm going to wait on Forza 6 and see what it brings to the table.

                                Edit:
I went ahead and booted up Forza 4 and counted up every single car in my garage that has over 100 miles on it. I have 126 cars with over 100 miles on them (yeah I have a problem), and of those, only 25 will be in Forza 5. It really underlines the biggest problem I have with Forza 5, that being the fact that I love cars in general and I love switching up what I'm driving all the time. In Forza 4, there are so many offbeat cars that are so different to one another that it gets hard to get bored of racing; if that happens, I just jump in a completely different car and I'm good. While Turn 10 only halved the car list for 5, for all intents and purposes they are giving me one fifth of what I want in terms of cars.

This is even worse if I look through my list of cars with over 300 miles on them. I have 24 of them, and of those, only a single ******* one of them made it into Forza 5 (1969 Firebird). It's like Turn 10 specifically targeted my favorite cars for exclusion, ****ing hell.

The more I think about this, the more it pisses me off. I was expecting cars to be left out, but so much of what they cut is the **** that car nuts like me love.
