Lowest I've heard is 35% silver and most was 55%.

That's the last bunch of numbers I can find.
Says 75.9 million 360's sold with 40 million XBL memebers.
Use whole number of 76 million just to make it easier.
So right away they're losing 36 million customers from those that haven't gone online at all.
If silver was 45% that's another 18 million.
    18 + 36 = 54 million.
They'd be losing up to 71% of their customers with an always online requirement and that's not counting those that already have gold that may not like it. Of course some silver members and pirates will convert but I don't see that making up the loss.

Then they'd be losing more money with the no used games thing as rental stores wouldn't be buying anything.

I'd pay $300 today for a 360 with an HDMI pass through and low power always/instant on mode.

Walk into the living room, say "Xbox, Netflix" and my DirecTV is muted as an Xbox overlay appears as it loads netflix? Yes please.

You have your opinion on it and that's all fine, but MY opinion is clear cut. Always on and force the kinect to be connected and I will never purchase a 720. Hell it has nothing to do with brand loyalty either because I'm a 360 fan through and through. You force that upon me and that is a removal of what was once a for sure sale. If ps4 made the silly mistake of copying I would not purchase either system.

I will not under any circumstance place a camera in my home that can be monitored PERIOD.

      It is all about principle!

Now with that said I understand the "usefulness" of the features, I just don't find them necessary to be forced upon people.

End of the day it comes down to what I deem unreasonable and border line invasion of privacy. I will take no part in it ever.

Update: Pennywise also discovered a pretty distinct developer leaving a highly implicit post on the matter:

"Given that legally I cannot confirm or deny if this information is true, nor can I comment on rumor or speculation, all I can say is be sure to pay your ISP bills ."

Info on the dev behind the comment:

            Re: Xbox 720

I for one believe MS is making a biiig mistake if these rumors turn out to be true. And from what ive seen so far, they very well may be true.

Even in their apology for Orth's comments they never dispel the idea of an always on console, so I say take what you will from that.

I know id rather not have an always on console with a camera in my living room. Paranoia, overreaction? Call it what you will.

Fact is alot of other gamers dont support this and word of mouth spreads like wildfire. If MS believes the casual uninformed customer will buy this after they catch wind of its implications they got another thing coming.

No Connection? You cant even play single player.

Lose connection for more than 3 minutes? Get booted out of your session and start troubleshooting.

Want to hook up your Xbox720 10 years down the road and take a trip down nostalgia lane? Cant do it theyve dropped all server support.

Yea, No thanks. *Gotta get used to the Playstation controller again...*

I haven't read all the pages on this just commenting on the gist. What am I missing about the always connected stuff, can't you just unplug it and plug it in when ready or is there some backup power source like a laptop battery?

Anyway, this is what's great about competition and voicing your concerns because I am willing to bet this all gets remedied prior to console launch. If not, thank goodness for PS4, which I personally have preferred Xbox the last two consoles. However, with getting older and wiser, I will be making the best choice on the merits this time around, unlike with choosing the 360 and paying for XBox Live when PSN is free.

On the other hand, that "free" did cost people with that security attack on PSN but it got straightened out and I wouldn't have too much personal info on a free gaming network anyway.

Rumor suggests if you dont have an internet connection the new xbox will not allow you to play games.

Look it up on the internet, and while youre at it heres a link to what one Microsoft Studios Creative Director was saying over twitter. And the backlash of reactions it has spawned. Its everywhere

I know how I'll deal with always online...by switching to Playstation 4. Xbox 720 just seems like its not even going to be focused on gaming. The PS4 is.

Yep theyve made it pretty obvious theyre trying to turn it into some sort of EntertainmentHub/Gaming Hybrid...

If you unplug it, it will turn off as there is no power. I don't think they will put a battery in it as it will add to the cost and also they fail a lot.

If gamers really want it, I think they will be unplugging it when not playing or hook it up to a wifi controllable outlet to shut the power down.

MS is trying to get another source of revenue for Xbox Live and this is going to be a huge money maker. Xbox Live Gold better be free if they want gamers to put up with giving away their info.

I honestly think all the talk is true. MS has been stupid in the past with a lot of their choices. It has cost them in other areas and they continue to do it. Just look at Windows 8.

I am with you on this.

Huge globalist corporation. All this NWO talk and policies being passed. "Smart TVs and Smart Phones".

Do not want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this all seems rather too coincidental.

Once was a great hobby, may soon be fizzled.

And of Sony (another globalist corporation) is the same thing, then that is just obvious the connection.

MS knows all this as they have seen it for a decade now. It will not matter if they do all the things people are flipping out about as they know a large majority will still buy in the end. They have set the tone(DLC, Online, etc) ever since they got into the console business and there is no reason for that to change now, especially since the consumer has not changed.
