Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Those screens are amazing Phobia. Loving the Arma shots, and, well, all of them are slick.WTF, you said you keep your wireless keyboard and mouse in the pocket of your recliner. Can you tell me what kinda of wireless keyboard and mouse you use?
Reason I am asking is I am in the process of looking. I am getting my PC "living room" rig ready and I have read some things on wireless technology that has me concerned slightly. They said the older tech resulted in a obvious delay when operation a mouse for the signal to be sent and returned which made gaming with these more difficult.
Now I have read the improvements in the wireless technology is making this no longer a issue. But I am still trying to find a reasonable price pair (keyboard & mouse) that does not break the bank and still operates great.
I have read about the wireless "Mamba" that it has no delay and is just like a wired mouse. But this thing is over a 100 bucks

As for the wireless keyboard and mouse, I have a Logitech MK320 set, it was cheap, and works perfectly. I've not had one bit of interference, and its smooth as silk when using it. You really don't need a "top o the line" mouse/keyboard anymore. Most reputable mfg's should be able to provide you an excellent setup for cheap now.
Granted, I don't use mine to game, as I use the 360 pad for

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I have an ASRock for my Core2duo 3.0 ghz. No issues with it. OC'ed to 3.6 ghz with a few clicks of the mouse and is rock solid. No issues. This 560 completely rocks, I put it through its paces on a few titles last night and my jaw dropped. I tried the demo for Just Cause 2 and couldn't believe how good it looked vs. trying it with my GTS 250.
I d/l NBA 2K12 overnight, so I'll be checking that out today. The real test, to try and run Crysis at higher settings which on my previous card would only run on Medium.
I see Phobia and WTF you guys were recommending ASRock mobo's, but reading many user reviews on Newegg, these boards are getting blasted too with DOA's and other various issues. How are the Intel branded and Gigabyte boards?
Definitely itching to break into the quad cores, possibly a 2500k i5. Perhaps a little SSD to go with it.Last edited by choadler; 04-03-2012, 03:53 PM.Comment

Also do you ever notice any interference with your wireless internet from the 360 wireless adapter? I seen some complaints with that.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I have had maybe 2 dropped connections with my controller during the entire time I've been gaming on the PC, and that's only when the batteries start to get really drained anyway. I think it just has a harder time when the batteries get so low.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
ARMA is gorgeous, you just have to really like that kind of game or you'll hate it as much as the screenshots are pretty. Like ME3, they'd probably benefit from a genre-jumping arcade mode that was a bit more forgivable. We ended up enjoying Operation Flashpoint a bit more, it has a touch of consolitis that results in a little bit lower barrier for entry I think.
Nothing is really cooler than flying across the map in a large chopper full of people, flanked by a little chopper with a few people covering us, I'm going to have to try and get back into ArMA2 now next weekend to play some 32 player co-op.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
The ASRock looks to be very easy to overclock with the included software. It's tempting to OC, but don't plan too anytime soon.
How much is that keyboard and mouse Phobia?Comment

Only 50 online, so not only is it reasonable but ranked 5th on the 2012 wireless reviews.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Great choice as I'm using them. I just wish they had a keyboard lighted version...Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Nice, that is good to know! Isn't the MK710 lighted? I could be wrong, I looked at so many different reviews I just remember it being the more advanced version of the 550 and remember it having a LCD screen. So I just assume it would be lighted.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I installed Crysis disc last night, which I had bought from amazon about 2-3 years ago and is the UK release. I never had this issue before, but now the game forces itself to 30hz vs. 60hz and I see it in the resolution. Is there something I'm missing as it has never done this before.Comment

Maybe something in the .cfg file.??? Just a guess. Most games the .cfg file is the first place to make good tweaksI installed Crysis disc last night, which I had bought from amazon about 2-3 years ago and is the UK release. Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
The 25ft HDMI cable came in and I got it hooked up to my receiver which runs to the plasma. I played some Bulletstorm and NBA2K12, pretty amazed how nice this looks on there. To my surprise, the 560 also bitstreams audio out which is quite awesome.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
For any of you guys that like retro gaming. The original Fallout is being given away free on GOG.com for the next 48 hours. There is a widescreen high resolution fix for it as well (just do a quick search on the internet or check out the GOG.com forums for help locating it). One of the great old school rpg's ever.
Also, there is a free wing commander game that was redone by fans based on the Freespace 2 engine. It is called Wing Commander: Darkest Dawn, it has 55 missions and is a prequel to the Wing Commander III game, so it is an original game in a sense. It looks really good and is absolutely free. Check it out.
PC gaming is awesome.Comment
