Re: *** Official OS PS3 Trophy Standings III ***

Today I am announcing my retirement from the PS3 Trophy Standings. It was a nice run, but priorities for myself have changed over the last few months and unfortunately gaming on multiple consoles was one of them. My PS3 was on the block and now it has been left behind. I think I can visualize Brett shaking his head in disappointment right about now.

I'd like to thank Ryan for keeping this thing running (and "sexy") since 2009. 4 more years!

I'd like to thank my leaderboard rivals aukevin and Chef Matt, you guys were totally classy before and even after you left me in the dust on the leaderboard. LOL Good times.

Shout out to DDW, for calling people out for when it was needed and getting this group through a dark chapter.

CaptainZombie, you are the epitome of a tenacious trophy gatherer. Slow down, sir!

bcruise, cake, mush, others who I might have missed, it was really great to see you guys stick to the leaderboards since the beginning.

I also would like to apologize for making fun of anyone who I might have called Dan Marino or anyone who played or considered playing the Hannah Montana game. No, wait, I don't take back the Hannah Montana jokes. Shame on you.

So there you have it... Until the PS4 trophies come around...

Sure, but not in the sense that "one company is better than the other", but it will depend on what system my close friends and family are also playing. This gen was xbox... I can definitely persuade folks to get a PS4 (the friends watching video of gameplay is a great idea) and if that happens I will strongly consider jumping back on the trophy bandwagon for next gen.

I don't want to like your post because it makes me sad. Like fiber. But nice retirement speach. See you in the next gen, Squeak.

Starting April off right... Platinum #15!

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Had high hopes for this game, didn't quite meet expectations but still some fun to be had.

Add this elusive freakin' trophy to my list!!!

Mass Effect 2 Platinum (3rd in my short collection)

2 playthroughs at probably close to 100 hours of pure enjoyment and no regard for other trophies.

Nice. This eludes me too. 71% currently. But I have the trilogy coming today so I may finally finish it before all is said and done, aka I ditch my PS3 for the 4.

                  Trophy whore alert:

Guacamelee, a game that will likely take no more than 10-15 hours to get all the trophies for (some have done sub-2 hour runs of the game, and 3 hours for 100%), has a platinum as well. It's also only $15, and less than that if you're a plus member.

It also happens to be quite fun. It's a Metroidvania-style game, though I find it much more tilted to the Metroid side. It's chock full of gaming nostalgia references, and a bit of internet culture as well (memes). Definitely worth checking out if that's your kind of game.

Are there seperate trophies for both the PS3 and VITA for the game Guacamelee ?

I know I'm not a diehard in here. I wish I had got into trophy hunting early into the PS3, but I just feel like I'm too far behind to put much effort in now.

I also wish I had more time to play games for trophies. My time is limited and I have to beat games and move on, if I'm lucky to even finish them.

I'll tell you right now, once you get hooked on playing games for trophies, it's a blessing and a curse.

Enhances replayability for many games and nudges you to play modes you may have otherwise never have touched.

On the other hand, you might force yourself to grind through games that aren't really fun just for the sake of nabbing some trophies.

Sometimes I wish I could just go back to playing games for fun and not worrying about trophies or 100% completion, but it's almost impossible for me.

This is why I made the decision to not get hooked on hunting trophies lol.

I have nothing against trophies, or people who "hunt" for them, it's a hobby, and you've chosen your hobby just like I've chosen mine.

If I like a game a lot, I'll go for the platinum. Because really, what better way to show what my favorite games are? If I hate a game, I won't grind out a game or try a mode I'm not interested in just to get a trophy that no one else really seems to care about. After all, it's all about personal enjoyment right?

I have a decent amount of trophies, by merit of playing a lot of different games and having a lot of free time. I could have a lot more, yes, but I could also have a lot less. Point is, I enjoy every game as much as I can, because I'm not made of money.

This is why you will never see me buy games that have easy platinums (except for that one Harry Potter game. It was like 5 bucks, and I needed something to play until my new releases came out. Turns out, it lasted a day. Ouch) or games that are too short to justify much of a buy.

Also helps I no longer like using PSN to download things... though in my case, I have no reason to be biased.

See, I bought Ni No Kuni.

I bought it on PSN, because frankly, I just wanted to get into the game.

I didn't realize how big the download was. It took basically a whole day to download correctly. The first time, my internet cut out for but a moment, and as a result it was a corrupted download.

                          I tried again. Corrupted download.

Three downloads later on a 15 mbps internet connection, and I downloaded Ni No Kuni.

I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I might try to get the platinum in it. I'm around 60% or so right now.

I have a few crappy, frustrating platinums. Star wars republic heroes being one of them.

Getting close to LA noire platinum. That one will not be one of my crappy ones.

That was a fun one to get. Though the only really frustrating one was finding all the freaking cars. God help you if you are missing the rare ones that only spawn in certain areas some of the time.

Protip on this: If you have the disk space, when you download large files off the PSN, choose "download in background" after it starts. After a short preparation time, it'll drop you back to the store page and the download will continue on without you having to be locked in that one screen. Plus (and more importantly), if the connection is interrupted in any way your download will pick up right where it left off once you re-connect.

I've heard that it requires more disk space than the download normally would, but it's still worth it to me for the peace of mind that the download won't be corrupted.

Enjoy Ni No Kuni - aside from some companion AI issues it's a fantastic game. There's a thread for the game in the Non-Sports forum too.
