All the home Blue Jay games will be broadcasted in 4K, that alone for me is worth the purchase...throw in a PS4.5K or whatever it's called, I'm giddy with anticipation.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Actually sbauer, the laws of economics suggest differently. Development costs always seems to continue to rise (Labor, Overhead, Discovery, Production, Testing/QA, Distribution). New technology like GPUs, CPUs, TVs/Monitors, Dvd Players, and other new retail item costs will slowly continue to decline.

But when you can take short cuts like porting over to another platform......$ Cha-Ching $

Of course they're going to continue to decline but we are not talking about the future. We're talking about right now.

Nothing I'm posting about has anything to do with porting games or dev costs.

As of right now a $600 card can manage 30 fps for some 4k games. Next gen cards should do a better job but at what cost. Supporting 4k games is a fun idea, but in 2016, the hardware is not cheap.

Which brings me back to my original point. If they're pushing to support 4k games it will either be expensive, upscaled or very limited

          Stupid question.

How do I delete messages sent to me? All I see is an option to "leave the group"?

You don't think a $600 card price competition bid to mass produce x-amount of units won't drop in price? Or 4K TVs that had an average price tag of $8,000 per unit in 2014 continue to drop in prices this holiday season to below $1000?

When did you think this upgraded unit will come out? I don't think it will be this year.

Yea no chance it's coming out this year. I'm thinking mid 18 at the earliest. But most likely holiday of 19.

4k just seems kind of pointless for living room console gaming. I hooked up my pc to my 4k tv and I could barely tell the difference between 4k and 1080p output from my PS4. Looks great up close, but from a distance on your couch, the difference is negligible.

My screen size is 55", might look a lot better on a 65" or higher, IDK.

TV market isn't anything like the video card market. There's a reason why the PS4 and Xbox shipped with the hardware that they did. It was cost effective and could be properly cooled. They are essentially using mobile video cards.

Yes, if they purchased them in bulk, they would get a discount, but not enough of a discount to make the price difference at least somewhat comparable in the next year or two. Even if they manage to get the cards at a decent price, they need to figure out how to fit it in a smaller form factor while keeping it cool.

I guess it depends on how long before the PS5 is released. This upgrade is being referred to as a "mid-cycle" upgrade to help enhance their VR performance, among other things. If we're thinking 2018 or 2019, that's 5-6 years after the release of the original PS4, which is much later than mid-cycle. PS4.5 suggests to me that it will be coming sooner than that.

That is true but I never down load games. I like to have a disk because I don't like that in the future a download game you may not be able to play any more and I also don't like that if your system breaks and you get a new one you have to download games again. My internet works pretty while yet it can take forever to just down load a demo of patches so downloading games no way do I want to deal with that.

Unbelievable but true. I'm sure prices will come down like all other new techs, but a good blueray-4k DVD player with built in HIFI is $400!

If a gaming dev is already going to develop for the PC, I'm sure they can port over to the PS4.5 or the new xbox1 upgrades with all the usual expenses they've done so in the past. Now, they have digital releases to lessen the burden of expenses.

I believe both Sony and Microsoft will jump in. Not sure what Nintendo will do. It's foolish and negligible to avoid new technology, especially tech giants like Sony and Microsoft. It would be like them saying in the 80's why should we make DVDs/CDs when we already have VHS, cassettes, or 8-tracks out in the market!?!

Its a choice. If you want to play VR, you buy it. You want 4k and all the bells and whistles with it? You buy a 4K TV and an upgraded system.

You saying that there is no way ps4 could be upgraded to play 4k movies? I thought or sure they would do that. Yeah 4k players cost a lot but they will go down like any other tech. Remember when ps3 came out ps3 was like the cheapest bluray player out there and a lot of them here 1000 no joke. Now you can get one for like 100.

I was saying though that I think by ps5 we will see 4k games and that is not right now that is the future. I think it may be limited but so where 1080p games last gen and I think next gen will be like that with 4k and then the gen after that I think we will have a lot of 4k games. I know it may cost a lot but tech goes down. I am not sure when the whole 4k tv thing started. I don't think I heard of 4k in till 2014 and I never saw a 4k tv any where in till just last year. When I first heard about 4k in 2014 4k TV's cost way more. Then you started having 4k 50 inch TV's at like 1000. Now you can even find some that size for like 700-800. That is a solid drop in only a few years and most likely next gen is around 2-3 years away so that is a good amount of time for prices to go down even more when it comes to all tech.

I am not sure. I have always thought blu-rey was overrated. To me blu-rey looks about the same as dvd. I get blu-rey movies but really just because dvd's a lot of times don't have the same special features any more that blu-rey is getting. My tv is also 720p that upscale to 1080p. Maybe because my tv is not full 1080 is why I fell like blu-rey is overrated and maybe why I don't see much of a difference. With that said I have seen 4k TV's and they look incredible to me even if they are only like 30 inches. Maybe because I am used to my 720 tv and am going from seeing 720 to 4k it makes the difference fill bigger I don't know.
