 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

This definitely worries me. Right after I cut the cord, I was reading about Comcast implementing data caps in some areas and I started freaking out that Denver was one of them. Luckily it wasn't, but I check every couple of months to see if there's any change.Related: I keep reading articles on broadband data caps being used to "pressure & punish" cord-cutters.

Is this something we should be taking into consideration?

I realize these streaming services are fighting this and it looks like cord-cutters with some ISPs look like they're in the clear for the next 7 years or so.

From what I can gather, Comcast's general internet packages offer 250GB of data before making you pay extra. Well, with all of our streaming now, we hit that in about a week. Looking at it now, we're at 1030GB with the billing period ending tomorrow.

I think they offer an unlimited data fee of $30 extra per month. That would end up negating the cost benefit of going with a streaming service, so we would likely go back to regular cable if that gets implemented out here; especially with no access to other high speed internet options.Comment

That's what they're hoping for. Unfortunate leverage that they have.

Fios doesn't have a hard cap at the moment. It's unlimited unless you hit 77tb apparently. We've thought about going 100% streaming.Comment

In Memphis, we only have Uverse or Comcast. Cut the cord about six months ago and love it. We had UVerse (terrible) and switched to Comcast and I bought my own modem and router. This definitely worries me. Luckily, there are no caps for Comcast in Memphis right now.Comment

 Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

All these talks about data caps...I have NO clue (I guess I could check my bill) but how much data is used while gaming online?

Whenever I've heard caps brought up I have these horrible thoughts that one weekends night worth of Battlefield or the like would crush that cap.

For battlefield it kind of depends but I'd say a safe bet is around 50-60 MB down per hour. Maybe half that for upload.Comment
