Like some of us have been saying all this time. NEO won't fracture the existing ecosystem but only enhance it for those looking for those extra features (4k streaming, VR, cross-play).

What I don't understand is MS Scorpio. The slim makes sense but the Scorpio? If all games will be playable across all 3 systems then that means Scorpio won't have any exclusives. What would be the point of having a powerhouse and not be able to take advantage of it?

Phil went on record saying that it is 'up to the devs', and that there will be games that will not work on the Xbox One that are for the Scorpio. It is their way of 'starting a new gen' without actually coming out and fully admitting to it. Basically passing blame to the devs, and looking 'good guy' in a gen that has not even fully taken off. We will see how/if that goes down. Marketshare is key, and right now they do not have it, so a 'reboot' with BC was to be expected. There will be Scorpio specific software, however, Xbox One games will work on it (probably much in the same way as the 360 wrapper), but not the other way around.

Sony's strategy is a little bit more consumer friendly in that regards with non Neo specific/exclusive software.

How are you supporting the Neo and bashing the Scorpio in the same breath? Does logic not apply here?

I'm thinking the slim is able to do what the Neo can do. Was I mistaken?

They just added 4K UHD/video support. It will not do native 4K gaming this deep in the gen for AAA games, when it struggles to do native 1080p, unless they are basic Indie type games.

The Neo is a boost in power, combined with the UHD/Video features, and uses different tech for more than likely better scaling to 4K (if they are using their patented X1 scaler tech in their TV's).

Neo will not see native 4K for high end graphical games, but has a greater ability to achieve it than the PS4 or Xbox One. From some documents released, they are using a different type of technique, rather than a 'standard upscale', to help the image even more so (why I think they are using Sony's X1 scaler tech). Supposedly all games have to be at least 1080p native on it, which also points to that technique.

Looking forward to the Battlefront patch! 1080p/60 with the X1 God Tier scaling... bliss!

Of course it won't. The software will be the same. People will continue to buy the PS4 (price matters to mainstream casuals), and enthusiasts will buy the Neo. Same software, same ecosystem. It extends life into an already popular console if anything.

Extends life??? Enhances it??? People act like PS4 is a damn Jaguar or some crap. 42m sold in 30 months. On pace to surpass PS2. It doesn't need a slight upgrade at all. Uncharted 4. Horizon, Days Gone, God of War IV, etc. have already proven that PS4 is ******* awesome as it is. Truly no reason for Neo at all and better off going straight to PS5.

Hmmm, based on your opinion of Scorpio, what's the point of Neo then??? Neo and Scorpio is the same idea. Mid gen upgrades. The difference is that one is a minimal upgrade while the other is what most would have preferred three years ago at launch. Another difference is one console has 42m sold while the other is at 20m sold and while not completely based on the console being inferior to it's competition, that continues to play a large roll in why Xbox One is over 20m behind. Scorpio is basically a do-over for Microsoft and their new direction. The exclusives is that the games will look and run better than on the base console, have a far longer life cycle than the current Xbox One and make PS4 and Neo look like crap in comparison spec wise. The reason they're waiting for 2017 is because by then, they'll be able to release it for $400. If they release it now, it would be $500 or higher. In 18 months, the costs will decrease enough to where Microsoft can hit the $400 mark.

The slim is to try to breathe a little extra life into the current Xbox One and hell, give me a good trade in deal and a black 500GB version and chances are, I'll swap my VCR, err, I mean Xbox One for a slim.

Don't care about Scorpio since I don't have a 4KTV and outside of maybe five games, I barely play the Xbox One as PS4 is my primary but looking at it in an objective point of view (and people here know I have favored Sony this gen), the Scorpio makes a hell of a lot more sense than Neo does for Sony and the PlayStation ecosystem.

I don't think Sony will but they should delay Neo until 2017 simply because if they release it this November, they're going to oversaturate their own market and it doesn't work. Didn't work when Atari did and it didn't work when Sega did it. Sony will have the base PS4 at $350 (or $300), Neo at $400 (can't see it being higher) and PSVR at $400. They'll be oversaturating their own market and after selling 42m consoles, I don't see the point.

Scorpio - great move for Microsoft all things considered.
Neo - horrible move for Sony all things considered.

I'm still rocking my 2007 LCD with no immediate plans to upgrade, so 4K doesn't matter to me (yet). But I'm still warming up to the Neo.

Upscale games to 4k, and there's no guarantees there wont be Scorpio specific games, messaging has been confusing on that front. Support for VR absolutely means there will be exclusives.

It's their Neo, just beefier.

This is where Microsoft just needs to shut the hell up until E3 2017. No reason talking about Scorpio now. All their responses should be "no comment" until then in my opinion.

No guarantee though that you get 1080P/60FPS. It's all up to the publishers and I seriously doubt that any of them outside of Sony will put any money into releasing a Neo patch any time soon after launch. Neo would have to take off like nuts for publishers to release a patch. I wouldn't hold your breath bud.

Yeah, the more Microsoft talks, the more they confuse people. Just like they did three years ago. Funny how companies never ever learn from their previous mistakes despite everyone else telling them. LOL.

I give Sony credit where it's due - thus far, they've been nearly silent regarding Neo and that's a smart move. As for Sea of Thieves, the game is going to be a disaster. Nothing about it looks good or any fun. Also, it's an MMO and when showing those games, publishers need to stop having those playing ramble on throughout the entire gameplay video because that doesn't help sell the game at all. If anything, it makes it worse. Same goes for the Ghost Recon gameplay video at E3 as well. Ugh.

Sorry. I'm just being realistic. 28 completed PS4/Xbox One games thus far. Considering that I was under 40 for Xbox 360/PS3, I would say that yes, I like console gaming. I just don't want it becoming something it's not.

Saying there is no reason for them to upgrade their console is ridiculous. Both companies are upgrading, there is clearly a reason.

More power, the better. I want the best console experience possible. The upgrades are a brilliant idea as far as I'm concerned.

Gaming has constantly changed, sorry. You're free to not like it, but there are a bunch of examples of cool **** that wouldn't have happened if people didn't push the line of what gaming was at the time. Maybe these mid-gen consoles will bomb, we don't know - but they're trying something different and the market will decide how it shakes out.

This angsty crusade you have against anything disrupting whatever you believe gaming to be is really annoying.
