Wish we could hear more about the psneo. I saw a blu Ray 4K player for almost 400 bucks ! These consoles will be the cheapest 4K blu Ray players on the market lol. Reminds me of last gen.

Yeah when ps3 came out it was 600 but most blu ray players where like 1000 at the time. I am dont have a 4k tv yet but even if i did i wouldnt be buying 4k blu rays yet becuase they cost like a good 15 more then regular blu rays do.

Yea if I'm not mistaken that's what PS3 was like when it first came out too by far the cheapest blu- ray player out there. I think in that aspect though overall it will have less impact as and I don't have numbers to back It up but I doubt nearly as many people will ever buy 4K discs as did blu-rays as everything is going digital via iTunes and Amazon etc, just my thought

I dont know when it comes to video games i have heard that 80% of sales are still on disk and only 20% are digital. I am not sure if movies are the same or if movies have a higher or lower % of people buying digital or not.

You might have just gotten some type of liquid food substance down there (juice, milk, soda, etc.). One thing I've done in the past that has helped is to just wet a Q-tip and press it all around the edges of the button. Then press the button a bunch of times to "clean" whatever was in there. That little bit of water won't damage anything and 9/10 times fixes the problem.

I honestly don't understand it, why so many of these guys even come to OS to post this stuff.

There are far deeper (relevant/specific) forums that love to talk specs, sales numbers, console history etc. They ought to check those out for their fix, I feel a large percentage of OSers could care less about some of the stuff they spew or their silly arguments.

But they still chug along so maybe I'm wrong.

I guess in the end, so long as tos ain't being violated I guess it's all good. But I still don't understand the impulse, oh well.

Yea when it comes to digital content only games are way back as most prefer physical copies still, I know I do for non sports games as it's easy to trade them in towards another game once beat them, sports games don't hold their value as much once season is over.

As far as the digital movies go I think I read somewhere a few months ago that this past year is the first time digital purchases (iTunes, Amazon) surpassed physical blu-ray purchases.

Not saying people aren't going to buy 4K discs just saying I don't think that's going to be as big a push to purchasing one for as many people as was for the PS3 as very few people even have a 4K capable tv at this point, and streaming is coming on fast

Well I know there where a lot of reason that ps2 sold so amazing but still crazy that it would sold both xbox and gamecube by so much. Also I think ps2 being able to play dvd was a big reason why it sold so much to. No matter the reason though I don't think we are ever going to see a console out sale another console like 6-1 ever again. When it comes to the power of xbox vs ps2 I find it funny to hear that xbox had more power because I had never heard that in till like a year or 2 ago. I always thought ps2, xbox and gamecube had the same power because there are not any games out there on the 3 systems that really make it so you would think one is more powerful than the other ones. Graphics on ps2, gamecube and xbox looked the same so it is hard to even tell that ps2 was less powerful than xbox. So the power difference must have been very very small back then.

Forgot about the DVD player as that was huge at the time. In terms of power, it was Xbox, Gamecube, PlayStation 2. PS2 was last based on what I have read but it used DVD's for the games (as did Xbox) but being a year ahead of the competition was huge for Sony and coming off the original PlayStation which crushed Nintendo and forced Sega to go third party gave PS2 a lot of momentum. The launch games were okay at best but it was MGS2 a year later that completely blew everyone away. Visually, they all looked the same but that's also because developers would focus on the stronger console and then port the games over. Xbox was the new system and in many ways, the replacement for Sega going third party. Because of that, they didn't have the reputation and thus, the confidence from gamers. Gamecube was just a stupid console with a horrible controller and using some stupid mini disc was just dumb. Outside of Capcom, the Gamecube's third party support was non-existent.

Yes Microsoft made a lot of mistakes with xboxone even though a lot of those things have been fixed. They where 100 more then ps4 even though they where less powerful. The whole having to be on the internet to play games thing even if that never happened it still left a bad first impression on people. With that said though I don't buy that Microsoft could be neck and neck with ps4 if they didn't make mistakes to start this gen. Sony has always been known for making better excusive games. Both xbox and xbox360 had major hardware issues that I am sure turned people away going into xboxone. I was suspecting xboxone to have big hard ware issues because of how xbox and xbox360 did. I have been shocked that xboxone hasn't had big hard ware issues.

The problem with the Xbox One's power is that too much of it was and still is used for their operating system which to me is a mistake. It's too slow and is just ugly as hell and navigation is horrible. Xbox 360 was good, easy, simple and looked better. I think that Microsoft would be right there with Sony because they would still have Xbox Live which in fairness, what made online gaming what it is today. Microsoft started it with the original Xbox and if not for the mistakes, I believe that those who played online on Xbox 360 would have just gone straight to Xbox One. Xbox 360 also had great XBLA games. I think that their XBLA (or whatever it's called now) games would be better than what it currently is. Microsoft screwed up on a few things and it just snowballed.

Hardware wise, PlayStation 3 had it's fair share of issues too. The percentages of hardware issues were small for both companies. Nowadays with the internet, everything gets blown out of proportion. Add in videos on youtube and even those who didn't experience any issues would soon think they were. I never had any issues with Xbox 360 but the first console was the "jasper" unit so I avoided the entire problem. PS3 was the original slim so I avoided it all. I have had more problems with the two previous PS4's that I had more than all of the other consoles combined. Even had problems with the original bulky PS2 getting disc read errors. Of course, I think that it could also be how much the console is used.

Outside of a week for Quantum Break, I have used my PS4 100% of the time this year and while later this year, that will decrease, it will still be around the 90% mark. Xbox One hasn't really had any hardware issues. Majority of the time, it's just bad luck with getting a bad console. A real problem affects millions but that rarely if ever happens. It's more like for whatever reason, there's just a bad bunch here and there. I read a lot of complaints about the PS4 controller sticks having the material rub off and peel but I haven't had a single problem but at the same time, that's one of those launch issues which happens for every console.

Exclusives wise, I easily prefer the exclusives on PlayStation 4 compared to Xbox One but it's also because Sony's exclusives appeal to me a lot more than Microsoft's and also because Sony's exclusives are usually single player focused which is what I care about the most. Xbox One exclusives have single player campaigns but the online multi-player is always their primary and main focal point. Microsoft has the Halo, Gears and Forza franchises which are really the only exclusives that sell on their consoles. In fairness, retail disc based wise, Microsoft has had more exclusives and new IP's this generation than Sony has had even though that will change by the end of 2017. The problem is that while Microsoft does put time, money and effort into exclusives and new IP's, they just don't sell period. Outside of the previously mentioned big three and quality aside, the exclusives on Xbox One simply don't sell.

If xbox couldn't even out sale ps3 over all with all the mistakes Sony made last gen then Microsoft was never going to have a changes to really compete with Sony. Last gen convinced me that the only way Microsoft had a changes was if Sony messed up a lot. A lot of mistakes Microsoft made to start this gen is kind of like how last gen was for Sony only when sony made those mistakes with ps3 they still ended up slightly out sailing xboxone by the end where with Microsoft doing that they are getting out sold 2-1 and the amount is getting bigger and bigger lol. Last gen ps3 cost like 100-200 more then xbox360 did. It also came out a year after xbox360 did. So not Only was ps3 more expensive but it came out a year later which meant that xbox could also do a price cut before sony really could.Multiplatform games sucked on ps3 for about the first 2 years has it was hard to make games for the ps3. Yet even with all of that ps3 still ended up passing xbox360 in sales. Now if Microsoft couldn't out sale ps3 with a year head start and a cheaper system and the issue of ps3 being hard to make games for then how where they ever going to out sale Sony when they didn't have a year head start? Or a cheaper console? Or the issue of it being hard to make games for Sony's system? They had zero change that is what I believe.

Sony caught up because they supported PS3 longer than Microsoft supported Xbox 360. Sony also had more exclusives and exclusives that came out at the end of the console's life cycle. The Last of Us was released in June 2013, six months before PS4. Gran Turismo 6 also launched for PS3 after PS4 launched. Microsoft had pretty much stopped supporting Xbox 360 earlier than Sony did.

Multi-platform games were always better on Xbox 360 than PS3. I played every single player game on Xbox 360 despite owning both consoles because they ran and played better. Fully installing the games onto the hard drive was also a huge positive for me. Add in the awesome XBLA games, better controller and for me, last gen was all Xbox 360 except for the four Naught Dog exclusives. Hell, just look at Skyrim on PS3. Ouch.

And there was change, a HUGE change. PS sold over 100m. PS2 sold over 150m. Xbox sold around 25m. Xbox 360 sold over 85m. PS3 also sold over 85m. See the difference though? The extra 60m in sales were from those who previously owned a PS2 and jumped over to Xbox 360. Even if you subtract the one year head start of 10m consoles sold, that's still 50m in sales that Sony lost with PS3. The reason it evened out at the end was because of the reasons I stated above and because despite the huge launch mistakes by Sony, they still had a far better reputation than Microsoft thanks to PS and PS2. Sony will always have the better name and reputation when it comes to gaming consoles because they not only built it all from the ground up with PS and then PS2 but also because they beat and surpassed Nintendo and Sega which at the time, no one thought that was going to happen including me. When you have that history and legacy behind your console compared to other company that has more hate towards it than love and more major screw ups, that's what will most likely happen more times than not.

With that said though, Xbox One is still outpacing Xbox 360 in sales so if anything, the extra 20m of consoles that Sony have sold comes more from the Nintendo side or just new gamers who didn't own any of the consoles from last gen.

Now that doesn't mean that xbox system don't sale though. Xbox360 sold around 86 million which is a solid number. Xboxone may sale even more then that counting the Scorpio that is. Its just Sony's consoles have sold like crazy. 2 Sony consoles have sold 100 million +. Ps4 is likely going to be the 3erd to do it and the other one which was ps3 sold around 87 million which is still a solid number. Sony just has dominated the console sales and Nintendo the hand held. Where Microsoft console are kind of in the middle and Nintendo's console out side of wii are kind of the low consoles in sales. Yeah Microsoft sales may go up with the slim but it is hard to say because some people may just want in till the Scorpio comes out to get a xbox and we don't know about the NEO yet and depending on how much it cost and its power the NEO may also boost Sony sales and may take away some from Microsoft sales. I think there are a lot of people that are wanting to get a ps4 because they want to know about NEO. I think a lot of people want to see how much more is a NEO going to cost compared to a standard ps4 and just how much more powerful is it going to be and is it going to have a bigger hard drive.

PS4 is just on a record breaking pace but it is slowing down since the Neo rumors emerged. Xbox One including the Slim and Scorpio will still hit the 60m mark by the time it's all said and done which considering their major screw ups would actually be impressive in my opinion. I can easily see them selling more than 60m as well but I'll play it safe and go with the percentages. LOL.

The Xbox One Slim will give the brand a boost because it's one sweet looking console. Wish it was black instead of white but hell, even I want to get one. Trade in deals will determine if I do or not but me just wanting to get one is saying something. Also, a lot of people will trade up or buy the Slim because it will still be worth more in value 15 months from now when Scorpio launches compared to the current Xbox One console which should have stopped being manufactured by now but you see so many of them available everywhere. Hell, I still see Xbox One AC Unity bundles which is insane.

Nintendo got lucky with Wii. It was a fluke and a flash in the pan. I still see Neo as hurting Sony more than helping them because it's not going to be much of a difference. Look at Uncharted 4, God of War 4, Days Gone and Horizon which were all running on the base PS4. If anything, the Neo is going to hurt Sony because there's truly no reason for it.

4K gaming is still years away on consoles and having a large enough user install base of consumers that own and game on a 4K TV is also years away. This is one of several reasons why Microsoft is releasing Scorpio at the end of 2017. They're hoping the 4K TV install base increases by a good amount by then.

Those who want to buy a PS4 now will just wait for Neo but those sales won't matter much because those people were going to buy it anyway. If anything, those people waiting on Sony to show off Neo and announce the price and release date can actually hurt Sony more than help them because if the wait is too long, more times than not, people just move on and forget about it. Or they will just buy the base console at a cheaper price.

I hate the entire mid-gen console upgrade crap completely but for Sony, it makes no sense at all whatsoever and yes, im speculating that Neo is more meant to help power PSVR and it's games to what Sony wants them to be. The main reason why Neo makes no sense is simple actually - PS4 is CRUSHING everything in it's way and there's no need for Sony to release a mid gen upgrade. 4K video, etc. isn't huge enough to release a slightly upgraded PS4 and take the chance on pissing off the 40m+ of current PS4 owners. To me, it's just not worth the risk and gamble. Pre-NEO, I easily thought that PS4 would surpass PS2 in worldwide sales but over the last few months of declining sales and post-NEO rumors, I don't see that happening anymore which is a shame because to me, Sony is shooting themselves in the foot by taking an unwarranted and unwanted chance. I can easily see this as the mistake by Sony that a lot of people have been waiting for.

Either way, NEO is bad. If the games aren't much better, those who buy will be pissed for spending extra money on it and if the games are better, those who currently own a PS4 and get the "lesser" version (think cross-gen) of the games are going to be pissed. To me, it's a no win situation and will never ever understand why Sony is going to do this. I just don't get it.

As for Scorpio, that makes sense for one simple reason - Microsoft is losing and can only gain by doing this. They literally have nothing to lose. The Slim and Scorpio consoles are meant to rejuvenate the Xbox brand and get consumers talking about them and wanting to buy them. Microsoft can take risks not only because they have more money but because they're also losing this gen and being outsold 2-1. It's not like releasing the Slim and Scorpio is going to increase the gap for Sony. It can only decrease the lead that Sony has.

Plus, I also think that Scorpio is going to blow away PS4/Neo in regards to what it will be able to do for games. I still believe that Crackdown 3 was delayed over a year so it can be the technical showcase for Scorpio. The 4K gaming and whatever else Microsoft has planned for Scorpio is more of an experiment to see how they should progress with Xbox 4.

If I didn't have a ps4 already I wouldn't get one now and would be wanting to see about the NEO because it NEO is say only 100 more then ps4 and also has a bigger hard drive and is a good amount more powerful then it would maybe just be better to get a NEO and spend a little more then just getting a normal ps4 plus once the NEO comes out it is likely that the normal ps4 is going to get a price cut any way. When it comes to NEO and Scorpio and say a ps5 and xbox 4 or what ever they are called I am really not sure how this is going to go. We have never had updated hardware power wise on console before only like smaller versions or systems. Last gen last about 2 years longer then normal and there was a lot of complaining about it. So I thought we would be back to the normal 5-6 years meaning a ps5 and xbox 4 or what ever at the end of 2018-2019. But now that Scorpio is coming out at the end of 2017 I am not sure That would then mean only 1-2 years before xbox 4 or what ever. I don't think people are going to want to pay that much for a new system again when it was only a year or 2 before that when Scorpio came out. I am sure a lot of people are already pissed off that xboxone was 500 and now not even at 3 years it is already down to 250. I know that systems get price cuts and that you tend to pay more if you get a system day 1 rather than wanting but to go down by 50% in has short of time is crazy.

Pretty much agree with this paragraph. I prefer gens to last longer than not mainly because near the end, you get some awesome games that you wouldn't get if the gen was shorter. Look at The Last of Us which is easily the best game last gen and it came out in June 2013 which was 6 1/2 years after PS3 launched. Of course, both Xbox 360 and PS3 were excellent consoles in their own ways so last gen lasting longer was only better for us.

Personally, I still think that Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One were released a year too early. The launch lineups were average at best with the majority being cross-gen. Hell, The Last of Us Remastered was the best game this gen up until Bloodborne and then The Witcher 3. Kind of sad that a remastered game is better then all the games released on both consoles this gen for about a year and a half.

I would say that next gen would start in the Fall of 2020, maybe Fall of 2019 if they want to push it. Neo and Scorpio changes everything. Not going to lie, I want both Neo and Scorpio to fail horribly because I don't want this mid-gen upgrade garbage becoming a standard in console gaming. Consoles are NOT cell phones, tablets, etc. and aren't meant to be. Not only that but let's be honest, 95% of those mobile games are pure garbage that aren't worth anyone's time, even more so if you're an actual gamer like me.

If they want to do upgrades within their console, then an easier and better solution is to have access ports, releasing a RAM upgrade or whatever else and it's completely up to you if you want to upgrade the console or not. Of course, that will never happen because Sony and Microsoft can make more money on the consoles selling and it makes investors and stockholders happier.

I can see people being pissed off buying Xbox One for $500 at launch but the difference is that because of the gap in console sales, Microsoft is losing money and willing to make that sacrifice in order to close the gap. Only problem is that it's not working for them. Only time will tell.

When xboxone got down to 350 I didn't think it would drop any more for a long time because I just didn't think they could afford to drop it again for a long time. The thin about the Scorpio to is that it is 4 times has powerful has xboxone so that already kind of sounds like a new gen power wise. Wasn't ps4 like 5 times the power of ps3? So that makes me think that something like the Scorpio and NEO may be a way to make this gen be a little bit longer with out being completely stuck with the same power before a new gen starts.

Again, the difference is that Microsoft is losing badly and they don't care if they take a loss. Sony took a loss on PS3 for years before it evened out and became profitable. For console manufacturers, the money comes from software sales, yearly subs, etc. Not the consoles themselves. Only Nintendo makes money off their consoles and outside of the fluke that was the Wii, you can see where that's gotten them in terms of just being a competitor in console gaming.

Not sure how much more powerful PS4 is compared to PS3. I know that it's a lot easier to develop for than PS3 was due to the cell processor. Yeah, Neo and Scorpio should extend this generation but by how many years will be determined by the market. I'm still thinking 2019 or 2020 mainly because once Scorpio launches, they'll need time to research and develop Xbox 4. Slightly lesser with the Neo because it's not much of an upgrade compared to what Scorpio will be compared to the current Xbox One.
