Finished my first game of Madden with my Xbox One controller and the Brooks Super Converter. Feels good, works as you'd expect, I didn't notice any input lag (I'll try the Show this weekend and keep posting updates if something feels off). Updated easily enough, download a ZIP file from their site, run 2 updates, plug into your PS4 and play. Love this thing already.

Thanks mike24 for bringing this to my attention, it's awesome. And the sticks on my Dualshock 4 were peeling, and I was going to get another one, but screw it! Now I can just get the Elite controller I've been wanting forever and use it on my Xbox, PC, and PS4. This is awesome.

Anyone think there will be deals for trading in original PS4 for the Slim model?

I'm really liking the Slim.

Gamestop will probably just maintain their $200 trade in value and say it's a deal. That's what they did for the One S. Though as PS4 deals pop up (think they are already) it will drop quick.

if rumors are true that the slim will be chopped to 300 or even 250 gamestop will not offer 200 credit

People wanted to get the slim over the vanilla xbox because not only did it improve physically but it included 4K capabilities

The Slim is a step down from the vanilla PS4

No improvement in terms of power or any new additions like 4K streaming or output and they removed the optical port which kills high end tb or astro headsets on the slim...

Vanilla ps4 trade value will be at most 150

It is not a step down anymore than slims of the past.

In fact, it is a step up in real estate, heat, quietness, 5g wireless, wired controller input, and more than likely price.

They will have the Neo for those options. But of course you already knew that.

Yea to me those are irrelevant because the ps4 vanilla that has come out the last year is quiet unlike the original and yea price is going to be lower which I expect it to as it is not providing tangible improvements over the vanilla and removes a big feature which is optical support.

Optical support is huge for people who game with expensive headsets and I bet many will buy the slim not even know this will lead to them having paper weight for astros and turtle beach high end sets.

I rather have the ability to use my expensive headsets with surround sound over having a thinner console and 5g wireless.

I have never used an optical port before but I know a lot of people who like to use high end headsets. Is it the only way to use that kind of headset or do they also have USB connectivity?

This is for the mainstream casuals at a more than likely casual price point. The hardcore already jumped in. In which you would already have the OG PS4.

I guess. DriveClub was delayed and there was no racing game on PS4. There were like 80 million PS3's in the wild, obviously more than when 5 came out. I dunno, sure there's market reasons for it to sell less but it sold half. And the buzz around it just wasn't as big as 5. Not sure what developers jumping ship from last gen ports has to do with anything either, these guys didn't have **** else to do lol. GT6 sold less than the GT5 Prologue, which was basically a demo.

Yeah, PD is on the downside and developing GT Sport as an eSports game is ******* stupid. Honestly, Sony should just cancel the game and tell PD to start work (if they haven't already) on Gran Turismo 7 and get back to what made the series great.

I said it a few weeks ago. Sony should have kept Evolution Studios. They could not only have had the PSVR version of DriveClub but maybe another expansion which would make up for the GT Sport delay. Drive Club started out as a disaster but has become an excellent racing game from what I have read. Maybe Sony kept the wrong studio. LOL.

It's tough to ignore the fact that Forza manages to pump out one of two quality racing titles every two years and GT has trouble launching a game within two years of a projected release date.

The series has fallen behind in just about every way that one can; graphics, audio, presentation, modes, cars, accessibility... it's a mess. The developers need fresh blood and fresh perspectives. IMO there should be some massive turnover in staff and the series should be completely scrapped and started anew.

Forza and Forza Horizon is every other year and im pretty sure they are developed by different studios. Releasing an excellent racing game in a two year span is excellent and they both deserve props.

PD should scrap GT Sport and just go straight to Gran Turismo 7 in my opinion.

I don't see any problems with the PS4 Slim basically being a smaller and cheaper PS4. After all, that's the point as to why Sony is doing it. To lower their costs. The Xbox One Slim has 4K but it's not for games and the HDR support is only for those with a 4KTV. The Xbox One Slim if anything was meant to re-energize, revitalize and rejuvenate the Xbox brand and thus far, it appears that it's doing just that.

Personally, I have no interest in the PS4 Slim. Screw that, I already own a damn PS4. I'm interested in Neo. One more week to go!!!!!

I'll say I don't know why Sony would remove an optical out as that isn't for enthusiast but also for people who have old AV receivers that don't use HDMI. You can also forget about most surround sound headsets. I don't agree with that decision. It's cool they're making it slimmer than what it already is, but I don't agree with this move at all.

I agree. An optical port is standard on av equipment, as stated above it is more mainstream for audio while the "enthusiast" would choose hdmi. You can get an adapter to split the hdmi into hdmi + optical out but again likely something an enthusiast would know, not the average user.

Keeping the base PS4 would make the Slim pointless because it wouldn't be saving Sony any money and if anything would end up costing them more. The PS4 Slim is for those who have not purchased a PS4 yet this generation or purchased one and later sold it and hasn't purchased it back yet and prefer a cheap option.

As for the optical port, it's not a major issue or big deal and here's why - like Colin Moriarty said on the Kinda Funny Gamescast that was 40 minutes about the Slim. Sony like all the companies go by metrics and all this other data to determine what's being used and by how many people. The optical port isn't being used by enough to justify keeping it in the Slim. Out of 45m users, even if it's 10m, still not worth it because it's the minority and the Slim is all about cutting costs and saving Sony money, period.

Those who already own a PS4 and use the optical port have no reason whatsoever to buy the Slim so this doesn't affect them. For new buyers, it's all about the price point. A cheaper Slim will appeal to them and even if some of those new users wanted to use the optical port, chances are they will just say screw it because they're saving money. And for the minority that do want it, they'll most likely have the rest of the year to purchase a base PS4 which is almost certain to get a massive price drop as it would make no sense to keep it at $350.

I don't use any headsets at all so quite honestly, the optical port doesn't apply to me. In general, Sony's message is do you want to save more money which can be spent on games or do you want to spend more money on a port that you may or may not use?

The Xbox One Slim removed the Kinect port because like the optical port is used by so few that it honestly, just doesn't pay to keep it. Plus, Microsoft has phased out Kinect but if the metrics showed the majority using it, I can guarantee that they wouldn't have removed it.

You can dislike the removal of the optical port but it makes sense for Sony as a company. Majority don't use it and removing it cuts down the cost even more which is the entire point of the slim.

Besides, slim models do this all the time. Every slim model has always removed at least one meaningless and useless port in order to cut down the costs and save the company money.

PS2 Slim removed a few ports if I remember correctly including the HDD expansion port because few (including me) people used it or cared about it. Even as one of the few who used it, I didn't even care because it's not major issue. Neither is the removal of the optical port.
