Totally disagree. Sony looks awful in this. Obviously understand it from a business perspective but what they did with Fortnite was a total joke. Every time they refuse crossplay it’s an awful look for them.

As a consumer I'd like to see it but I see why they don't. Honestly most average consumers, not us here at OS, really don't think much about it and keeping everyone in the PS4 ecosystem encourages sells when they are the market leader.

Think about it this way, if you wanted an Xbox One but all your friends had PS4s but you knew you could play anyways you might go buy an Xbox One. If you cannot then you will go buy a PS4.

The simple fact is that it makes very little business sense whatsoever for Sony to allow crossplay and despite it looking bad the bottom line is the business decision is sound.

Inversely it makes the exact same business sense for Microsoft to endorse and encourage it...

Also not sure I agree with that first paragraph. Plenty of people have been hammering Sony over the Fortnite situation. Just look at their twitter. Doesn’t matter what they tweet about. There are always people responding bitching about their epic account being locked.

Having worked in retail I can tell you that about 80% of gamers really aren't that hardcore enough to ever go on Twitter to hammer anyone about anything.. In my view, those people mostly just buy the game, occasionally play it and that is that, they don't analyze it, complain about it, go online to talk about it, etc...they just don't.

I think, as I said, that happens no doubt, but it's people that are a little more hardcore about their gaming, people like here on OS.

But the average consumers don't know or care enough to complain about something like that I do not believe...

Here's the thing though...Fortnite was crap until they added Battle Royale to it and it simply took off. If it was just another crapfest game with barely anyone playing it, the cross play issue wouldn't even be mentioned let alone talked about.

Sony looks awful to who? A few thousand people? Compared to millions such as myself who don't care either way? It simply comes down to business and money. Until declining cross-play impacts Sony's revenue and profits, they will simply stay the way they are.

Now if Sony stays this course when they launch PlayStation 5, then I think that it would be a far bigger deal for Sony. Right now, 82M, approaching 100M and will be second best selling console of all time, Sony honestly doesn't need to do a damn thing.

As for Bethesda, Todd Howard and Pete Hines should both have some balls. Use Fallout 76 for this threat. Anything less is a joke.

If you think there are only a few thousand people who own a PS4 and switch who would prefer their account to not be locked onto one platform I’m not really sure what to say to that.

I’ve said I get the business side multiple times. It’s still not a good look. No need to keep explaining the money situation.

I think the point is money trumps a look is what we're saying. Sony does not care how it looks to however many care about it, whether its a few thousand or a hundred thousand, because obviously its not costing them money or they would care.

The money is what it comes down to though. Unless Sony sees themselves losing a crapton of cash due to not having cross-play, they're not going to change their stance. And for the record, they do have cross-play for some games. They're not allowing it for the bigger games because they don't want people to play Fortnite on Switch and buy some items on that platform when that money could be going to Sony. It's all about money. Always has been and always will be.

The people complaining are such a small minority that if it wasn't for Fortnite Battle Royale, it would literally be non-existent. It's also the simple fact that as the market leader, they don't want the losers to be making money off of their success.

There's no reason to be objective. If you're Sony and dominating, you're not going to allow the competition which is losing to make money off of your user base and success while also costing you money in the process. There's really nothing else to it.

He’s essentially In here explaining why it’s a bad look just to try and formulate an argument against it being a bad look. We understand money and greed trumps all from Sony’s perspective. It’s literally the only reason to not allow crossplay. Even they don’t want to come out and say that though because they know it’s an awful look. They usually revert to some excuse about protecting the children or something.



It also existed before Fortnite. So not sure why it keeps being brought up like it didn’t. It’s been an issue with at least two other huge games too. Rocket league and Minecraft.

In War Thunder, all PS4 players are identified with an asterisk in front of our names. Kind of ironic and cheesy when we're playing against PC, Mac, Linux and they're not labeled. But, I manage.

I would think people that have the game on both ps4 and switch would be pretty low. I think most people if they buy a game on one system are not going to buy it on another system has they are going to fell like its just a waste of money to buy it again.

Yeah the number of people who are gamers who buy a game on more than one system is very rare. I actually have only done it twice in the past five years (madden and diablo) and I buy a lot of games.

And I know of only one other friend of mine who has done it as well..it is just not very common at all.

So yeah it happens and that would be nice to have that ability but that's a very, very small group of people, almost statistically insignificant when it comes to setting up a policy to be of benefit to those folks.
