I must say though now that I have played it on early release I decided not to cancel my pre-order and may actually go pick it up for ps3. The game is dramatically improved over last year and gives me great hope for FIFA on the PS4. The pace and gameplay you have to play first hand to get a feel for and you can not play on default sliders and game speed. The game looks like complete garbage on default but with speed and slider changes it plays like a completly different game.

Sony’s SVP Gives New Info on the PS4′s Noise Level, Power Consumption, Media Performance and More

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn’t as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he’s the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4. Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site AV Watch.

Here’s a summary of the most relevant points:
      • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
      • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there’s the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative play between multiple players.
      • The secondary chip for ultra-low power operation will mostly activate at night from 1 to 4 AM and download any required update automatically. It will also activate when software is purchased through external means like the PlayStation App.
      • Power consumption will vary greatly depending on the performance of the game played.
      • The noise level of the console during operation is generally much lower than it was on the PS3.
      • The PS4′s cooling fan has a low noise level and stepless speed control (meaning that it will increase its speed to match heat smoothly and not in sudden steps like the one on the PS3).
      • Since the Blu-Ray player is 6x instead of 2x (like the one on the PS3 was), the spinning noise is actually louder. Ito-san feels it’s not annoyingly louder and it will be countered by caching data on the hard disk drive. It’ll be mostly audible during the initial spin-up.
      • The Audio/Video performance (for movies and music) of the PS4 will target PS3 levels at launch, but will be improved through updates, for instance with the addition of 4K, as Sony is also an Audio/Video company.
      • The theme of the PS4 is “Personalization”, meaning that it will offer an experience tailored to each individual.

There you have it: looks like quite a lot of thought has gone into making the PS4 easier on your ears (the stepless fan controll is a big improvement there) and on your power consumption. We’ll have to see how this will actually work in real life, but the data provided by Ito-san is definitely interesting.
The mic is bad but this is a PS4 over at Sony Euro PR UK being booted up http://instagram.com/p/ep9eghHYzm

They definitely had the Slim in mind when saying it'd be more quiet than one.

Man, I had a chance to preorder a PS4 on Amazon and passed it up when it was available. I know my chances of preordering one anywhere online or in store is impossible now unless someone knows where I still can? I'm hoping to just go to a Gamestop,BestBuy,etc that day or weekend and just try to buy one in store, since the rumor is that there was just a set number of preorder stores can have, but the stores will actually be getting more systems than just the preorders and it won't be shortage like when the Wii and PS3 was released. Is there any truth to this?

Just walked into Gamestop and paid off my PS4. Only had 150 left to go, figured I'd get it out of the way. Now for some games...

Already did, no luck. I have a feeling that I will be able to walk in a store here in Saint Louis MO and pick up one somewhere that weekend or following week, I just don't feeling driving around all over the city to find one in a store, I wish I just had my preorder and was able to just walk in and pick it up with no hassle.

Good news, everyone (in the UK)! Looks like that rumored bundle was real.

That's compared to Microsoft's offering, which includes FIFA 14 when you pre-order the bundle, Kinect and an Xbox One controller.

Bought separately, the bundle's contents would cost £503 when purchased together from Amazon at time of publication (£349 for the PS4 console, £55 for the PlayStation Camera, £54 for a second DualShock 4 and £45 for Killzone: Shadow Fall). That's roughly a £70 saving.

                          Edit:
UPDATE: Sony has revealed new detail on its Killzone Shadow Fall PlayStation 4 bundle, which will actually be available in two different flavours.

You can get a PlayStation 4 console and physical copy of the game for €439 (roughly £369, final RRP TBA), as well as the PS4/Killzone/Camera/Extra DualShock 4 variant mentioned below, which will cost €499 (roughly £420).

“Proper cause to celebrate”: Sony rediscovers its disruptive roots with PS4

Sony is ushering in a new, disruptive strategy with PlayStation 4. VG247′s Dave Cook speaks with Sony UK’s Fergal Gara regarding how the firm is re-igniting its past to shake up the industry at large.

When PSone initially came out of the gate it did so in a hell-fire of dark, obscure marketing campaigns and purposely warped messages. To cite one example, the original Crash Bandicoot TV spots featured more live-action footage of a fat man in a tiki mask trashing a supermarket than actual gameplay. Sony was a risk taker back then, like a petulant upstart hawking flem into the eye of the established order and calling for anarchy in the ranks.

With PlayStation 4, that old feeling is back at Sony, and while the company’s image has become more palatable in recent years, it has taken a number of big bets that could create significant ripples in the industry at large. Combined with a strong family of triple-a studios, an aggressive investment in the indie market, the continual push of PS Vita, the incredible clout of PS4, the acquisition of Gaikai and more, and you have a company that wants you sit up and pay attention.

Today, in the deafening and shockingly under-soundproofed press rooms of Eurogamer Expo’s grand hall, I spoke with Sony’s UK VP and MD Fergal Gara to talk about the company’s strategy moving forward, and how it looks to rekindle its love of disruption.
