On the no CD front, they announced that they cut the CD reader out of it to cut down on costs I believe.

Also, I could have sworn that they said that external hard drives would be usable during one of the announcements. I remember posting in here that I was going to consider using a 1TB external to run stuff, and I feel like others did as well.
I thought it was always about swapping in an internal 1-2 TB drive.

If Microsoft does the same thing will you skip out on both consoles?

This - seems so very strange that the parent company would remove a feature that is so beloved in one of it's most popular titles here in the states -

But I play 2K, The Show, and WWE for the game - adding custom music was always just a nice to have, but definitely not a game-changer(for me at least) Feel bad for the people who do utilize it often though -

I know it's been that, but I would swear we talked about external use in here early on. But I could be wrong.

Honestly, I think I would. At least until there was a significant price drop. NBA 2k14 is the only reason I even feel like I NEED a next-gen system at launch. Just based on principle I feel like I can not go next-gen if both consoles strip key features that are present on current gen consoles. I could use the extra money saved anyway.

Reading through the FAQ again I noticed all disc-based games must be 'cached' to the hard drive - does this imply a temporary storage of game data or something more permanent? I've seen game sizes ranging near the 50GB mark.

If that is the case, it means we can only conceivably install say 8/9 games before we need to upgrade the hard drive. The largest hard drives at the dimensions Sony requires are 1 TB which doesn't exactly make things a whole lot better. This makes the failure to include support for external hard drives a bit of a head-scratcher.

Maybe they have something planned, but haven't released yet. It doesn't bother me at all, but to some of you I can see why it's upsetting.

Removing features is just wrong IMO. Regardless if it's a game or console.

I just want the PS4 to be a bad *** gaming machine. Which I think it will be.
Its not a "bad *** gaming machine" if it doesnt have features like in game music streaming that other gaming machines have.

.mp3s are already confirmed for Xbox 1.

Yeah, it leaked that COD requires a minimum of 49gb, and Sony said on Twitter it was caching that happened during gameplay. It's unclear if this is just what they're calling their streaming install process or not, if it keeps the cache until you delete it, etc. (I haven't had time to read the FAQ, apologies if it's covered there and just haven't seen it).

That could make sense if it's just caching. You would just need to keep ~50GB free to let all games use the cache (as long as it's automatically cleaned up).

                                Hopefully this is correct.

                                http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/10/...t-cache-space/

That means as you play, it will install and delete data, saving you a lengthy install time and valuable hard drive space. Essentially then, you’ll have at least 400GB of space on your hard drive to do what you want with.
