The issue is you're speaking in absolutes and it's absolutely not true that "no one buys desktops for the home".
Declining industry? Sure. But unless you're ready to cite some facts from the future, a lot of people are buying to justify the industry shipping 90 million units Q4 (thanks for the Google search!) - and not just businesses
But hey, lets not let facts get in the way of doom and gloom posts, one analyst says the PC industry will go down 4% this year, after down 3% last year... so from 352.75 million unit forecast in 2012 to a meager 338.34 million. Yikes!
Your own links cite task infringement, and elongation of the replacement cycle, but not 'nobody buts home PCs anymore'.
Now that that's out of the way, how about that PS4?
