I'm really regretting my purchase of this system.

This console just feels like it won't last 2 years. Depending on the game, it just goes crazy loud as if the fans are working at max capacity. It really looks like the console is struggling.

Then, there's the random auto-eject issue...

I'm really mad, i feel deceived everytime people say the PS4 is quieter and cooler than the PS3, because my PS3 is perfectly fine, and most PS4s I've seen just have the same problems...

Could be a defective system. I have never had this problem with my system the whole time I have had it.

I can guarantee you, it's not. All over twitter, neogaf, gamefaqs and other places I've seen the same complaints.

The auto-eject issue was fixed on newer models with mechanical buttons. But the "jet fan noise" is definitely "normal".

Even newer models sound like that with certain games. Compared to my PS4, my PS3 is dead silent all the time.

I always thought that putting the power brick inside of the console was a bad idea, but Sony cares more about aesthetics than durability, i guess...

My PS4 sits literally sits 2 feet from my head while I play, has never given me any issues with fan volume or ejections (it's a launch model). Only issue I have ever had with it was caused by a third party USB hub.

The fan is definitely louder than it should be on the ps4, but I don't always hear it since I play with the volume up on my games. Some games for some reason makes the ps4 fans blow louder, but it usually doesn't bother me.

Sony has never had a issue with any of there systems not being durable. I think it is just the system you got because I have not heard a lot about that and I would say over all I have heard of even less complaints about ps4 having issue then ps3 did. Also when it comes to the sound I have a ps4 that I got the day it came out and it makes way less sound then my first day ps3 ever did but more sound then my slim ps3 does. My slim ps3 makes like no sound at all and my first ps3 was very loud. I would say ps4 is between the first ps3's and slim ps3's when it comes to sound.

                  Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

                  Hey Razer,

That sucks to hear about your PS4 having noise issues. Just because I haven't necessarily experienced the same thing doesn't mean I don't sympathize. I would be frustrated if it was happened to me all the time. In fairness to Razer, one thing that should be pointed out where there were numerous reports of launch issues with PS4, I remember that story about the factory producing them where students were forced to work or something like that. Razer definitely isn't the only one saying this. There were so many horror stories that I was scared when I was waiting for my Amazon delivery to come in that launch day.

I've done all I can to take care of my PS4, especially with dust, and while I know inevitably a lot of dust has probably been sucked in there I feel it still performs, for the most part, admirably. I've upgraded the hard drive 3x and am always sure to put everything back together secure and tight.

That being said, I have had some issues. Sometimes when I put a disc in the PS4 it sounds like it's going to combust. I can't explain why. It's the main reason I tend to go digital when I know it's a game I'm gonna play a lot.

It's definitely not as "whisper quiet" as my One, but right now as I'm chilling listening to Spotify and downloading Far Cry 4 again it's totally quiet. In game, I only get the "jet plane engine" fans during certain games, which makes me wonder if it has something to do with the game more than the system, like in the case where Rocket Leagues main menu was causing ps4s to melt. It's weird because I can play the division with Spotify running to my Sony Golds and the thing stays super quiet but if I play rocket league for 10 minutes I can hear it across the room. From what I read some people think the heat sensor in the system gets damaged or is faulty and causes he fans to overreact and go into higher drive than necessary. PS4s in general do seem to run a little hot.

I definitely think that the mileage seems to vary depending on each persons specific console, much like the launch controllers sticks, some just weren't made very well, unfortunately.

I'm hoping when Sony launches a full on PS4 slim model, or whatever the next version of the ps4 looks like, they are made more consistently excellent across the board.

Hope you stick with it, man, it's my favorite system ever.

                    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

It's really frustrating. If the noise was the only problem, i would be ok. But I'm afraid about the console. I've played on PCs for a long time. What happens to my console (and unfortunately, with many others) is worrisome because the fans are working at full speed, and the system is being forced.

After some time, it may (most certainly will) have a problem.

It's not true that Sony never had issues with the durability of their systems (PS1 had tons of faulty drives, PS2s had the same problem in a smaller scale, PS3 had the YLOD...), but that's not really the case here. After seeing an open PS4, i think i know why so many systems have the same problem with the fan. Yeah, one single fan that sits over the GPU. The system is really cluttered, with almost no space, one single fan and internal power brick.

Some people told me i should apply thermal paste, but I'm afraid of doing that.

I'm really happy for all you guys who didn't have a single problem with your systems, but it's just not the case for me and for many others.

I play video games since 89, and this is the first time i feel genuinely afraid if playing some games.

The fan running means it's doing its job. Not really sure why you think it'll fall apart. But like others, I'm 2 1/2 years on my launch system, running it multiple 24 hour straight marathons, I have zero worries when I boot it up. Even if the fan gets loud, the system feels cool to the touch. Works for me. Sorry its frustrating you though.

Mine doesn't get too hot (hotter than the PS3, but this is normal), so my worries are really about the fan progressively being less effective down the road due to excessive stress (I've had this problem once with one of the fans on my PC).

To be honest, it only happens with Gauntlet (after 30 minutes of play), Street Fighter (during the fights), MGSV (on the helicopter, known issue due to unlocked fps) and it happened once with MLB 15 after 2 games.

Unless you have the model with the physical buttons then the fan issue will always be there for certain games. The thermal paste they used was garbage which is causing the issue. It was enough for me to trade it in for the newer models because at night I could hear the fans in some games and it was way to loud for my liking

The new models are whisper quiet with all games

Yeah, mine is a model 1115-A, with the capacitive buttons.

Unfortunately i can't trade in the console cause the stores around here don't buy used consoles.

Buying another one is currently out of my reach, with these prices going up like crazy. Selling it to another person would not really be ideal, cause if the console indeed have a problem, it would be dishonest to sell it that way.

                              PlayStation 4 Discussion

I just got my PS4 and I've noticed it kicking in loudly at times. I also just posted that it wasn't waking up from rest mode once in the few days I've had it. Disconcerting but I was able to reboot it and it didn't corrupt anything.

It kind of just is what it is. People trip all over themselves trying to add all these fans, dust it off every day, apply thermal paste (thermal paste... what is this, NASA?) when that'll probably only marginally increase life span.

I get being proactive, but we don't know when these things will one day just decide to break down. It's technology, oftentimes I've found there's no rhyme or reason to why something stops working one day.

My suggestion: do what you feel you got to do, but don't lose sleep over it. If it happens, handle it when it comes up.

I find this hardware failing stuff interesting. I did a tiny bit of research before settling on the PS4 and one of the article that came up on Google was how well built these consoles are compared to previous generations. Weren't seeing many complaints about failure. Go figure.

Both of my consoles sound like they're preparing for a sub-orbital flight on occasion. There are going to be failures, just have to hope you are one of the relative few it happens to and there's very few systemic issues.
