On topic.....I guess all that multi-media stuff is great for those like you but for people like me, it's just pointless and useless when I have a laptop. Now, if I didn't have a laptop, then perhaps, it would be a different story. And in general, im not bashing those who use Xbox One for all the multi-media stuff, I just hate reading the majority of posts that favor Xbox One and list the multi-media aspect as the console's number one positive when the majority of stuff can still be done via a PC.

In the end, to each his/her own though.
I hear you, and in the past I was willing to do that...As of now it's not realistic to ask my wife to change HDMI cables or troubleshoot why the laptop's not behaving correctly. The One just makes it simple IMO.

With how you're talking why not just get a power gaming laptop and do everything on your laptop? You can play nearly all games on PC, and get them cheaper too....Something to consider, might be more expensive but better investment into a nice laptop....

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I'm probably not going to upgrade until the Holiday's or even next Fall.
But I've got the itch pretty bad to get one sooner than later.

I'm also on the fence as to which to get.
I'm a huge Gears of War fan so I don't want to miss out on that series.
I'm also very interested in the State of Decay IP.
However, Sony has one exclusive that I'm really itching to play, Until Dawn.

I've owned both consoles for the past two generations and it's only because of exclusives.

But as of right now, I'm leaning more towards the XB1.
I've recently added Netflix to our PS3 and my wife is very interested in the voice commands she could use with the XB1 to watch a show or movie.
I also like the idea of playing a game while she's watching a movie.

In the end, I'll probably go with the one that offers the greater bundle. Hopefully one with NHL15 included.

I have a one and love it. Chances are your wife will not enjoy watching anything in snap while you play a game though.

I have a couple laptops and a couple iPads in my household. It doesn't change the fact that the multimedia side of the one is a great feature.

I don't want to have to teach my wife or mother in law how to hook a laptop up to the main tv in order to watch Netflix. Therefore we use various boxes (blu-ray streaming, old consoles, etc). Now with the One it's way simpler for people to learn how to do streaming and whatnot. IMO it's made it a part of the living room in a great way.

It would have been more annoying to have to buy a webcam for my wife to Skype, then she's forced to sit in the corner where we have our PC and monitor. Now she can skype with the picture on the huge TV, just by talking to the tv. She calls her mom and sister on that a ton now.

I don't think you can really undervalue how easy it can make it for "non gamers" to use. I remember trying to show my wife something on the PS3 and the menu/blade system wasn't very intuitive for her so she basically bailed.

Just something to consider. I still agree that pure gamer is better served by a PS4. I've also realized that I'm no longer a pure gamer, and love all the features the One gets me now. Before my systems would gather dust for all but the 3ish hours a week I can play. Now we use the consoles constantly, I can be watching tv and pretty instantly switch to a Netflix movie if I'm bored (something I do when watching the baby early while my wife sleeps).

This is exactly why I will probably be buying the Xbone today instead of PS4. I'm like you and even though I'm still interested in gaming I do not have that much time with it to just game for hours with many games. I will get more out of the Xbone than I would the PS4 it sounds like that for that reason. I also am really in to the multi media stuff as well and I use all that stuff. I mainly use my PS3 now for netflix and other things more than I do games. I also am only about online gaming when I do game and will never really play a game offline so the online service I want to be the best possible for what I pay for.

I am a computer geek and that is what I do for a living as a network administrator and have multiple laptops... but I don't really hook them up to my home entertainment system in my living room.

That's cool...just interesting considering how adamant you are about using the PC, but you're also adamant about not using your PC lol.

I get where you're coming from though, I'm not a PC gaming fan totally either (never know if my current PC can handle something, better off with consoles).

Not only that, but I went ps4 first because of the whole debacle with Microsoft at first and was a little bit upset at the way they handled things in the beginning. I was mainly a 360 guy last gen. At first I also felt like I wouldn't need any of the multimedia stuff either, but after getting the one and seeing how my wife, my kid and I enjoy it it became the console I use more. And like you said it makes it so much easier to use than a laptop especially for the family. Also enjoyed many of their exclusives too especially Forza.

The Xbox one is a console that you have to try out yourself to really appreciate all it has to offer.

I use my laptop to stream TV shows, listen to music, watch movies here and there and just basic web browsing which mainly consists of reading about games that im interested in and watching gameplay videos on youtube to get a better idea on how certain games will play and whatnot. Also, im a football fan so I keep up with that too.

For me personally and it's just me, no one else, I just don't see the incentive to purchase a gaming console to use as everything else but a gaming console especially when I can do the exact same things on my laptop. For me, that's not worth a $400 investment. Right now, Xbox One has only one game I want to play which is Ryse: Son of Rome.

When Ori, Quantum Break and Tomb Raider all come out then chances are, I'll buy one but not until then because im not going to use the console for all that other stuff and thus, it will collect more dust than my PS4.

On the positive side, starting with Mordor, I have between 5-8 third party games in a three month span. For me, my interest in either console's exclusives don't kick in until February which is fine by me since it gives me plenty of time to finish those third party games and minimize my backlog as much as possible.

In the end, it's about personal preference. While I'll eventually buy an Xbox One, reading that the main positive about the console is the 'multi-media" stuff doesn't entice, interest or hype me up to run out and buy one. In a year from now, when there's games I want to play, then yeah, but not now. One game isn't worth buying a console for.

I more see it that I'm getting something that plays the games near PS4 level, yet offers all this other stuff in addition. It was worth the minor dropoff (one I don't notice since I don't have a PS4 and my eyes aren't that great lol) for added features.

IMO it's just a bargain giving you more in that regard. But for gaming alone you just go PS4, I agree.

As a company, I HATE EA. More than any other company. I respect the hell out of FIFA and a couple of other games. But they don't get one extra dime from me on principle if the game is marginal.

And personally, they're only adding the older games and this service would have probably been better off being on Xbox 360 (and/or PS3) due to bigger catalog of released games and user install base.
I assumed this included the old games. Don't know exactly how it all works though..

If it does good though, I can definitely see other publishers doing the same thing but unless you get a backlog, most games that get added to the service for Xbox One (and/or PS4) would have most likely already have been played and finished.
Agreed. It's really not a bad idea for them. If there's a market for it, why not? It's funny that you mention backlog. I keep every game that I feel I'd play again. I don't sell them. Because of that, I don't need the EA Access type of service.
