    Help with strict NAT?

First of all, I'm not sure where I should have posted this... hopefully this is right. If not, I apologize.

Anyway, My family recently switched to U-Verse for our internet provider. Great! Fast internet! Wrong. I can't party up with my friends on my XB1 or connect to anyone on GTA5 on my 360. Checked my network settings and it says my NAT is strict. I've never had this problem before so I have no idea how to fix it. I went into my router online using my IP address but didn't see anything that seemed relevant. It's a 2Wire if that helps at all...

Can anyone help me out with this?

You have to open up your ports.

Google your model number and someone has already gone through your headache.

There are 6 or so ports you will have to manually open.

I went to portforward.com but it didn't help me out much as the pictures it showed were outdated. I couldn't find anywhere to make changes to my ports.

Without knowing your model of router/gateway the best most can tell you is to open ports.

On my version of Uverse gateway, you go to the config screen and click:

        Settings, then click
        Firewall, then click
        Applications, Pinholes, DMZ

That's where you open ports to certain devices.

It's a 3000HGV-B.yesterday I tried this... It brings up all my devices hooked up to the internet so I select my xbox one and allow Xbox from the application list but it still shows strict for me

I've had this problem as well with AT&T, but I've simply unplugged my router for 10 seconds and plugged it back up and it worked. Have you tried that?

I check if my NAT is open or moderate on Call of Duty.

I've tried a couple of times but don't think its changed anything. It's kind of annoying...

I have a 'moderate' NAT on my XB1 right now. If I take the steps to 'open' the NAT, does that leave the console open to outside hacking? Is that a thing?

I don't believe so. I think it's just how open it is to connecting with other people. Open can play with anyone, strict has to play with strict

if he has ATT UVerse, you can only have one console with its port open. the other will be strict.

when i want to play any 360 game online, i have to unplug ethernet out of the back of my xbox one, reset the ATT modem, boom, 360 nat is open.

when i go back to xbox one, i plug ethernet back in and it works just fine, goes right back to open.

i have all the ports etc opened up.. its just how ATT makes ya do it bc they dont support UPnP..

Works for me, 3801HGV and my PS3 and PS4 both show NAT 2 at the same time, maybe it's just MS consoles that have issues? Never even opened ports, they just worked.

                            Re: Help with strict NAT?

I've always had NAT 2 which is the most common NAT.

                            ------------------------
In the network settings of the PS3, it uses 3 different NAT types to classify how the PS3 is connected to the Internet:

Type 1: The PS3 is sitting directly on the Internet with a public IP address. This setup doesn’t require NAT or inbound port forwarding and is used in scenarios where the PS3 is the only device wanting to use the Internet connection. This isn’t that common as most users share their Internet connection with other devices in their home.

Type 2: This is the most common and ideal type where the PS3 is sitting behind a RG that is performing NAT. The PS3 will have a private IP address which is translated to a private or public IP address by the RG.

Type 3: This usually implies you have a problem in the way the PS3 is accessing the Internet. This may be caused by a firewall or port restrictions. This isn’t ideal and will result in a sub-optimal gaming experience.

odd, bc with that said i should be able to chat/party with my buddies on nat 2 on psn. i cant, even with ports all open etc.

i have to do the same as above with my 360, unplug my xbox one, reset modem, load ps4 and i get nat 1. without being directly connected to it.

i just dont worry about the ps4 chat stuff bc i dont use it like i do my xbox 360/one..
