What exactly is Sony's plan here. This is all a very confusing strategy.

I truly believe the One S caught them with their pants down.

I guess we'll see. It's not often I find myself underwhelmed, but here I am feeling exactly that.
It kind of reminds me of the iPhone 4 or 5 announcement, was just kind of underwhelming because Samsung was hitting it's stride and they and other competitors had already released phones that while maybe not as powerful out-featured the iPhone, which had been held in such high regard and moved the goalposts every year w/ what could be done on mobile devices.

We could see Sony in a similar situation if they're not interested in doing the iterative console bit and Microsoft pushes out consoles every ~4 years. Outclassed for a bit, make up some ground, then quickly outclassed again, similar to iPhones now.

For 4k consumption, the One S covers all the media bases and then some w/ 4k streaming, and UHD disc playback. The value proposition then is the rendering difference, which they didn't really touch on much, so will consumers even really care or see a difference in these products if they are looking at a $299 One S and a $399 PS4 Pro on the shelf, while the difference between the PS4 S and Pro is clearly 4k?

They didn't touch on any other things like 1080p streaming (Remote Play to PC and Twitch/Youtube) that they've certainly added with the pro, right? Wouldn't that be worth mentioning?

          Agreed.

What I don't understand though, if that's the case, is why not just release the Slim at $250 and undercut it, then delay the Pro until next year and spec it up?

Again, right now, we have two machines that, combined are neither cheaper nor offer ALL the features that the S does. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I totally missed that point. They didnt mention anything about having a UHD player in it. Wonder what the thought process was for that.

Still going to get the Pro though but surprised it didnt have one built in. Not a big deal for me since I havent bought a physical movie disk in about 5 years now.

I think it would be pretty wise for Sony to put an emphasis on showing the increased rendering on 1080p with Pro vs base at future conferences

Because Sony wants a 4K machine on the market. They had these two designs in place. The issue is, I think we will see yet another Ps4 in the next 18 months with Scorpio coming.

I'm not sure what to think but the Sony meeting today may have just convinced me to buy the Xbox One S.

                          Yeah that picture sucks

In general, I think they need to try and show a legit difference in side by shot shots before Nov 10

The thing is..I plan on getting a 4K tv in the near future but I have absolutely zero interest in this Pro.

I like the PS4 as it is right now. I'm not some pixels whore...so I just don't get the need for this system and clearly new systems which are sure to start coming down the pike.

But keep getting that money Sony.

For me, I want a 4K machine that plays UHD with both HDR-10 & Dolby Vision. Looks like I just need to pick up a good UHD player and keep the PS4.
