Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
4K market penetration is only 15% right now.
Also, its not that people dont care about disk based media. Its that they have other options.
For example, I have 2 4k TVs. I dont have a 4K Bluray player but lets say that I did and I wanted to buy the movie Creed. So here are my options:
Pay $30 for a 4K Bluray
Pay 22 for a Bluray
Pay 15 for an HD Digital Copy
Pay 10 for a DVD.
Now if I'm a videophile with a 7.1 ATMOS system, I would want the movie in 4K. Most of us arent videophiles. Most are likely happy with a 1080p HD picture and would be happy with a bluray or HD Digital version.
I can recognize that 4K video is somewhat better than standard HD but is it enough to make someone pay $15 more for the same content?
I understand what you are saying about other options and it is true what 4k movies cost more but blurays cost a lot more then dvd at first to and now dvd and blurays almost cost the same. Almost at this kind of point in time blurays where still like 40 where a lot of 4k are only 30. So the price of 4k movies are going down faster then regular blurays where. 4k Tv's prices are also coming down a lot to. In a few more years a lot more people will have 4k Tv's and 4k movies will not cost that much. Then a lot of people are going to want to watch 4k blurays and sony is going to be left behind.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
That doesn't point to "business is booming".
1. That's another four years down the road just to get to a user base that's still barely the majority.
2. As prices go down and the tech gets cheaper, 4K will simply be included in more and more TVs. Naturally, consumers looking to buy new sets will be getting ones with 4K; similar to my 3D capable set which has never been used for 3D.Comment

Then get a One S. I don't know what to tell you. I thought it was dumb for them to skip out on the UHD player, but it's definitely not going to be a huge deal to the masses. By the time it would be, they'll have corrected the mistake with the PS5.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
I don't care about 4K UHD Blu Ray but Sony SHOULD have included the drive in the PS4 PRO for the simple reason that it makes no sense not to include it plus every extra positive you can have that could help sell the console more sure as hell can't hurt and for $15, yeah, Sony should have included the 4K UHD Blu Ray drive.
With that said, I care about HDR (10 bit) a LOT more than I care about 4K resolution and watching 4K UHD Blu Ray movies so that in addition to seeing what the extra GPU power will add to the games on PRO is what im most interested in.
The Xbox One Slim is still one hell of a sweet console and for $300, it's literally a steal. Besides, adding HDR, 4K support and the UHD Blu Ray Drive for the $300 Slim was a brilliant move by Microsoft. I would love to know how much money it costs Microsoft to manufacture the 500GB Slim.
Getting a 4K HDR TV in two weeks so I can play Forza, Gears, etc. is going to be awesome!!! The PRO will hopefully add to that and of course, who knows what Scorpio will look like spec wise when it's final.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Thats true but more care about Bluray. I'm not saying its a good thing that Sony left it out. I'm just saying that from a business perspective, it makes some sense. Especially if the 4k drive cuts into their profits.Comment

I can see that. I realize I'm in a specific niche of video enthusiasts.PSN-Shugarooo

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Yep but that niche shouldnt be ignored. The only that makes sense is that its a cost issue. In order to keep it at $399, they had to cut something. They probably think that us early adopters can afford to buy a separate 4K player.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
For me I'm happy right now with being able to stream 4K. Yeah eventually I'll start getting 4K disks but right now it's not a huge priority.
I'm still miffed Sony didn't include one as I was holding out on a 4K player as I was certain Sony would have it.
So right now if I wanted to do 4K disks I'll just gram an XBOX S. Probably after the holidays since I'm grabbing a PS4 Pro next.
Only 4K disk I own is DeadPool because BB had a sale for the 4K/Bluray combo for 24.99 at the time I got it.Last edited by Skyboxer; 09-13-2016, 03:31 PM.Joshua:
