I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Snes classic
Seriously...what a gigantic error Nintendo made with the NES Classic. Honestly, that experience had to damper enthusiasm for the SNES Classic (and all other such systems) to a pretty significant degree, because I'm not even going to try to get one of these. Unless I can just stroll into a store anytime and pick one up at my leisure, this is all irrelevant to me.Comment

Re: Snes classic
There's a Forbes article out there with a headline something like, "will Nintendo be able to keep up with demand for SNES Classic?" Lol people so naive. If they cared about demand they wouldn't have cancelled production on the NES Classic. It's all on purpose.Seriously...what a gigantic error Nintendo made with the NES Classic. Re: Snes classic
I'm struggling to understand what that purpose is, though. Does Nintendo just not like money?
Price inflation on the secondary market helps the company's bottom line exactly 0%. Chronically (or intentionally) under-estimating demand and forgoing millions in revenue is a curious business model, to say the least. Artificially creating scarcity, leading to artificially increased demand only makes good business sense if you eventually monetize that increased demand. Nintendo did no such thing. If there's a master plan here, it's completely inexplicable by any traditional business measures (things like, say...profit?).Comment

Re: SNES Classic
They are keeping the hype train alive. Nike has been doing this for a long time now with retro shoes.
Next year its the 64, after that a super thin gameboy, after that NES with wireless controllers with different games or a bundle with all 4 of them.
You keep it limited you don't have to have a large inventory sitting around and at the same time you have Nintendo in the headlines promoting their current system.
They can keep churning these out every year. You missed getting the new mini retro Nintendo? Oh well maybe I'll get a Switch now or the new Mario game thats coming out.

Re: SNES Classic
I suppose that's the theory? It's bad business, though. With regard to Nike, they (generally) eventually monetize their built-up demand in the way of other releases or similar releases on a larger scale or else keep only their niche products small-release - in other words, they know/understand their customers. They are keeping the hype train alive. The issue with Nintendo is the people that want to buy an NES Classic are largely a non-overlapping segment of consumers with the people that would buy a Switch. They were obviously in no danger of having excess inventory, and they likely passed on millions in additional revenue by so badly under-estimating their potential sales. So they aren't eventually monetizing the pent-up demand for NES Classic, since I seriously doubt anyone that couldn't buy an NES Classic decided to get a Switch instead.
"Hype", however you want to define that, is only good for business if it eventually translates to net profit. Given Nintendo's poor financial performance in recent years, nothing suggests to me they have any idea how to properly run their business.Comment

Re: SNES Classic
I'm definitely going to try to get one, but I'm not holding out much hope. Supposedly, they're going to make it easier to get than the NES Classic through 2017. After that, it probably isn't happening.
I was interested in the NES Classic, but when I was a kid, the Super NES is really the system that hooked me.

Re: Snes classic
I still own my SNES and it is in fantastic working condition. Always took care of it. That being said, if this is the official full list I may pass. I already own 7 of those games.September 29th
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Donkey Kong Country
EarthBound
Final Fantasy III
F-Zero
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Course
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch-Out
Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country
F-Zero
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Star Fox
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario World
Super Punch-Out
Never got to play Super Mario RPG as a kid so that would probably be my only incentive to get it. I enjoy having the original system though. I still even have an old swivel floor RCA TV from 1993 that still works. Do all my retro gaming on that TV.

Re: Snes classic
I really wish I would've taken better care and kept all of my old gaming systems. It would be fun to go back and play some of the games that aren't offered with this classic system. Nonetheless, there are several games on there I'm interested in, and I think it'll be a lot of fun to play these games with my 9-year old and 5-year old and show them what dad played when he was younger! HahaI still own my SNES and it is in fantastic working condition. Always took care of it. That being said, if this is the official full list I may pass. I already own 7 of those games.

Re: SNES Classic
Honestly, the only reason I'm not excited for this is how pissed off I still am about the NES Classic release. These days I'm less like "Jailhouse Rock" Elvis and more like "dying alone on the toilet" Elvis.Comment
