The PRO is not a good choice for 1080p owners....the value is not there because not all games super sample and many times the PRO gets just a basic resolution bump on the PRO....Not many PRO games do 4K....many do not even checkerboard to 4k...many checkerboard from 1440p to 1800p and the console than upscales the rest of the way...this means a not so clear image for 4K sets and much less for 1080p sets

the best super sampling is when the console does native 4K and it gets sampled to 1080p

if you are near buying a 4k set or monitor than yea is worth it...but not for a 1080p....Just my opinion....Not for 400

      PS4 or PS4 Pro

Actually the pro *IS* a good choice for 1080p owners because many games already give you options for graphics whether it's the super sampling or improved frame rates plus going forward even more will.

Also, it's not just all about graphics either, the pro loads games faster and offers other benefits such as better draw distance, improved physics, smoother overall game play, etc.

Not to mention even if you currently only have a 1080p you are future proofing your console so that when you do get 4k, and most folks will at some point in the near future, you are all set and won't have to fool with having to upgrade your console.

Well to most loading a bit faster and 30fps locked or close to over 27 to 30 fps does not justify 400 plus tax

When he does get 4k the console might be much cheaper and at that point he wins....Just a thought

          Re: PS4 or PS4 Pro

Anyone saying the Pro is not a good buy for 1080p is dead wrong. I had a 1080p and a Pro for awhile until I bought my 4K. As said, frame rate improvements alone make it 1000% the right choice. I could go on to explain but the points been said over and over.

I do have my old PS4 downstairs so I play back and forth and it’s just not the same. I don’t know how anyone could justify NOT buying it.

I agree with you dogg I traded my launch PS4 for a Pro earlier in the year & wouldn't go back. I don't have a 4k set yet but will in the future & I still love the benefits it gives me right now. The better frame rates being a key one for me.

The thing is with buying electronics and to save money is to always stay future proof if you can when purchasing.

                It's not justifying $400 - it's only justifying the difference in cost from a PS4 to a PS4 Pro..

I'm still waffling. A $199 slim is a great deal, but the argument for 4K future proofing and having performance gains is a sound one. It'll help once I see what Black Friday deals pop up for the Pro.

Edit: I'm now leaning towards the PRO. I've been thinking way too hard about this.

I never bought a Pro, just never saw the benefit and hated the louder fan. My buddy has a Pro and his fan is a lot louder than my Slim on any game we've played. Not as loud as the launch PS4, but if system noise bothers you, then I would look elsewhere since that seems to be a sticking point for you.

With future proofing? Meh. I would bet anything the PS5 or a new version of the Pro is less than 18 months away from being in our hands. Sony won't sit by and have the XB1X be the big kid on the block for too long. The Slim at $200 will do and play everything the Pro does. Maybe the framerate is a little lower or resolution is lower on a 4K set, but if you don't have said Pro in your house you'll never notice the difference anyway. I'm a Sony guy this gen, but have yet to see one compelling argument on why the Pro is $200 more than the Slim. My launch PS4 was dying last year and I went to the Slim over the Pro. I'm also a stickler with money, if I can't justify even an extra $25, I won't spend it just because someone says it's "better".

I just wanted to comment on this. Not that Sony is rooting for Microsoft or anything here, but I think they couldn't care less on what sales or profits Microsoft gets. The only profits Sony is concerned about is Sony's profits.

There is a guy named John Campea who has a YouTube show and answers people's questions regarding cinema (he's in the movie business) and recently spoke about the Marvel vs. DC box office wars, saying the same kind of thing and giving me this idea in the first place, because it made a lot of sense:

Now, the lurking variable here of course is that just because the numbers you don't see may be that sales from one company took away more sales from another company, so in effect while Sony is doing incredibly well with all PS4 sales they might think they are getting sales taken away from them with the XB1X (and they'd likely be right).

I don't think they should let Microsoft dictate when the PS5 comes out is all I'm kind of saying. If Sony thinks they are underselling PS4 units then that's a completely different thing to look at, but they shouldn't care less about whether Microsoft is even quadrupling their sales in the process.

Sony will not even consider releasing a PS5 until the PS4 has sold through, meaning it's been exhausted and they've had a significant amount of time to reap software profits. We aren't even close to that IMO. People thinking a PS5 may be just around the corner are simply not right.

And sure, you could wait for a PS5 but then why stop there, why not wait for a PS6? You could always play that waiting game *OR* you could go get a PS4 Pro and have the best PS4 for the foreseeable future.

My comment had nothing to do with sales, as I don't think the X1X will sell great anyway. I mean in terms of power. Sony wants to say the PS4, 5, Pro 2, etc is the most powerful system you can own. They lose a tag line in a week, you can bet they want that tag line back.

And where does it stop? it doesn't. Mid-cycle consoles worked, we may see another mid-cycle console in a year or so. They can easily fade out the Slim and make the Pro that system, moving to an even more powerful console still in the "PS4" life span.

Okay, that I can agree with.

Unfortunately, even as a PS4 Pro owner, I hope that mid-cycle consoles (except for slim models, etc.) aren't the future. It really does diminish the value of the console you shelled out $400 for in the first place. If it comes to it that the future is for that kind of mindset, then I'll be skipping out on a launch PS5 completely and wait for its more powerful version, or something along those lines. They can't get me more than once.

That's the other side of the coin and why I have been going back and forth so much. Basically, I know that the Slim would fulfill my needs just fine right now. Cheap, quiet, plays all the games, and I don't have a 4K TV yet. On the other hand, I do like the options that the Pro affords such as boost mode and the choice between high res vs high frame rate on some games.

Black Friday ads are starting to drop and I haven't seen any Pro deals, yet. That will probably be the deciding factor on which one I go with. I'll do a big reveal post, once I finally get one.
