    Microsoft E3 2018 Discussion

I figured with E3 about a month away and rumors and tidbits leaking that a thread should be started.

    June 10th

I been a fan of Microsoft for years but even I have played my Xbox One less and less and unless I see something I fear I may not keep it any longer.

Microsoft has got to have a good showing and has got to show off Halo 6. Hopefully some new IP's that launch it into another level with the X's power.

Im seeing if they say anything about Halo 6 being Games for Windows because that might make my decision to get rid of my Xbox easier.

Halo 6?? Mehhhh, I wouldn't even care if they showed it. Give me something new. Show me a new Perfect Dark and a bunch of new stuff then I'll get excited.

Kinda wanted to go to this, maybe next year. MS is increasingly involving the public in E3 events.

I was thinking about what to expect this year and was wondering if MS could somehow incorporate Windows gaming with Xbox. The One X is powerful, but is that it? Could it somehow handle PC gaming?

In what way would you want them to do this? I feel like the only way they get more PC-centric is if they enter into a partnership w/ Valve to run the Xbox Store on both PC and the console (since I doubt they'd let themselves be acquired). Let Steam manage game distribution and MS can keep their store for apps and productivity.

Streaming PC to Xbox could maybe be a thing, but not very exciting to me personally. Marketplace is the big issue w/ installing games on Xbox, which is why I mentioned the Steam bit.

With how they keep pushing the "games as a service" idea, I wouldn't be all that surprised if they did something like this. I've gotten the vibes that they want something like this since they started the play anywhere thing, which I don't have an issue with, it's just not particularly appealing to me.

I've read that sites are wondering if they'll have a streaming service (similar to PS Now), and that would follow given Game Pass and all that....

I'm in the same exact mindset you are, and it seems like many others are too. I personally really want to enjoy my Xbox One, but I barely turn it on anymore. I adored the Xbox 360, and in comparison to the experience I had on there, this generation has been such a disappointment.

I just have priorities elsewhere is all. I barely play my consoles and the games I play are multi-platform. This glut hasn't bothered me much, but understand the concerns.

This is largely why I've taken a step back and a lot of my wants from the various companies is related to improving their value or infrastructure. Stuff like that is bigger than the games - but ultimately you need games to enjoy it also.

Good points. I'm also one who doesn't have as much time to play (I probably waste more time at work on here and reading news than I do playing games at home lol)...

I like what MS is doing with Game Pass (and allowing EA to do their pass), and overall I like how much MS is improving the software on the console (I feel it's a bit more than Sony, but I don't pay as much attention there).

You can argue that Xbox One S and Xbox One X are giving people more hardware options vs PS as well.

I think Phil and everyone knows that First Party games are killer important, but it will take years for them to fix the errors of the past. It's not something you can rush.

I suppose I see it more as investing/picking an infrastructure. I buy more and more digital now, and don't necessarily want to lose access to that switching back and forth. Similar to locking into iOS or Android. Sony has obviously won the sales this gen, but Xbox has done really well still, and looking forward it seems like they are definitely setting themselves to be fighting again.

Microsoft really dropped the ball at the start of this gen. I can't underestimate how bad that was. They have made amends the last few years and the Xbox offer more, IMO, than Playstation. The lack of must have first party games has taken the wind out of the sails. Backwards compatability is cool. Game pass is awesome. So is EA Access. I'm an Xbox guy. I grew up with Xbox. I just like the system and controller better. I have a 1X and outside of RDR2 and NBA2K19 I can't think of anything else to be excited about with the system. I know both are going to look amazing. I have enough of a backlog as is but I'm low key hoping for a Gears 5 announcement for this year. Something to get excited about. I tried Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2. Neither did anything for me.

                            Re: Microsoft E3 2018 Discussion

Was more hyped for Microsoft's E3 conference last year. This year, im honestly not expecting much simply because this generation is done for them and they need to focus on next generation.

They did hire David Gallagher who's hopefully going to run their new start up development studio in Santa Monica, CA and rumors are going around that they are close to acquiring Playground Games which would make a lot of sense. Let's say that both of these are 100% accurate and we get a new IP from the Santa Monica studio and Fable 4 from Playground Games second studio team, both of these games are literally four years away minimum. E3 2020 will be when I get hyped again as their next gen console should be later that year.

As for this year, im just hoping to be interested in the rumored Gears of War spinoff. Not expecting Gears of War 5 or Halo 6 whatsoever. Microsoft's conference will have a lot of third party support via their marketing deals. I'm anticipating seeing Cyberpunk 2077 (which also has a one hour behind closed doors demo next week at E3 so im hoping that gets released/leaked shortly thereafter), The Division 2, Rage 2, Metro Exodus, Anthem and a few others.

Overall, I think that Microsoft's conference will be good but first party wise, they simply don't have the quantity when it comes to internal studios like Sony and Nintendo have. Good news is that they're finally starting to pay attention to the other two and starting to follow suit in this regard which will be great come next gen.

On an unrelated note - anyway to skip a line (space) in between paragraphs without using "br"? I keep pressing enter and it shows it when typing but not when the message is posted. Thanks.

Crackdown 3 delayed to 2019, to give them more time and avoid a possibly not as good result.

That blows. I mean I want it right, but they've been talking about this game for so long.
