As for the PlayStation 5 digital edition, Digital Foundry basically explained it. Sony wants you to go all digital (if you haven't already) because it kill off discs, the used game market and makes them all the money off of PSN. If you buy Ratchet in the store for $60, Sony only makes only $12-$30 (I forget which) due to manufacturing, distribution, etc. But digital on their store, they get the entire $60.

Sony has said that there's NO DIFFERENCE between the two consoles with the exception of the disc drive which according to Digital Foundry is about $20-$25 each. I'm expecting BOTH consoles to be $500.

For those who believe that you'll get storage space, Red Gaming Tech shot that down because the SSD on both consoles are custom made and designed for what they are. Plus, a higher capacity SSD would jack up the price considerably for Sony as that is by far their most expensive component in the PS5.

It simply comes down to if you want to play games on disc or digital only. For the same price if that happens, I'll stick with the disc version since im not a collector and rarely if ever replay games. But for those who are or already went all digital, Sony will be much more happy with you buying the Digital Edition.
If Sony really wants people going all-digital, they NEED to make the Digital version less expensive. Theres literally zero reason to buy the digital version if theyre both the same price.

That was a really fun showcase. The Xbox one didn't do it for me at all...this one didn't really have anything that I would personally categorize as must-buys, but definitely some games that look really impressive/might interest me:

      - NBA 2K21 - the one must-buy for me
      - Spider-Man - still haven't played the original, hoping I can play it on PS5 maybe
      - Ratchet & Clank - never played one of these before but that trailer was the biggest wow for me
      - Kena - not usually my type of game but looks pretty cool
      - Hitman - I enjoy the series but I'm not super passionate about it

Since what you alluded to regarding Sony's revenue on the digital version is true, they will likely do what they can to make that console more enticing and charge less.

Let's also not forget that discs mean more convenience for ourselves as customers to trade-in/buy used opportunities/share games with friends, and we get to play UHD/Blu-ray/DVD movies if we'd like to.

Lastly, logically, Sony contended that they didn't add the UHD drive to the PS4 Pro because it would be too costly (like $30 extra). In essence, what they're telling you is they do sell their consoles based on the cost of what goes in to it. In large part, one console has a disc drive, and the other does not.

Why should someone get the digital only console if they can have the same thing on the disc-based one and a disc drive? Your only two arguments you get are storage space and console size, and the first one has already been shot down. The extra inch of size isn't going to make that much difference in the world to a consumer if the price was negligible. You're getting a significantly better console on the disc-based version; even you said yourself if the price was the same you'd get the disc one, and Sony doesn't want that from you. Is it $100 better? That depends on who you ask. It is for me because of what I intend on doing with it.

Now, keeping all that in mind, my guess is they are setting the price point of what to sell the console at on the disc-based version. This means that if they want to make the console $500, they're going to do that on the disc-based one, and then the digital one will be marked down from that (to $450, $400, or whatever). I don't think it'll be the other way around.

          I agree

I enjoy Hitman, but it's a game I'm definitely just renting. While it is good that they drop additional missions via DLC and more freedom to assassinate in your preferred manner, i prefer the older Hitmans. I would love a Hitman Blood Money remaster. My main issue with Hitman 2 was the cinematic sequences between missions. I know there were development issues, but I rather them delay the game than to approach it that way. Those sequences really took the immersion away from the story. Hopefully Hitman 3 doesn't have that issue

So then why come out with a digital only system that doesn’t truly have enough
            memory to support it ?
Its not big enough but what difference does it make no matter if you get the digital only or not ever thing has got to be installed any way? 825 GB is a joke but so was 500 on ps4. With 825 and after you factor in how much the OS will take up we will only have what like 700 GB? So what like 8 games or something before you already need more space? Just from the reveal on Thursday i have like 5 games i already want and they will likely be out between launch and end of 2021. When you factor in games we may not known about yet from like 3rd party and such i will likely need more space by like some point in 2021. Right now a like 1 tb ssd cost like 200 and a 2 tb cost like 400. I am not sure if a 2 tb ssd will go down that much between now and end of 2021. The price of ssd almost makes me want to wait to get a ps5 has that is really going to add to the price but i cant wait on spiderman and ratchet and clank and horizon.

The digital will likely be cheaper. For 1 its a little cheaper to make with out the hard drive, and 2 if its cheaper it may push some people to go for that one, and like was said on digital sony gets more money from each game compared to if someone buys a physical game. The digital having a bigger hard drive would not make sense has it would then like drive up the price again that was lower from having no hard drive in the first place. Also if you give the digital one a bigger hard drive you are going to piss of people who want the normal one but would like to have more space.

If sony where to bundle with the system say a extra ssd you can us but for a little cheaper then buying it separate i would go for that. So for example if the system is 500 for the normal one, and say they add in a separate 1 tb ssd for like 50 to make it 550 for the bundle for that instead of paying 500 + 100 for the ssd for 600 or 50 more then i would go with the bundle.

Re: New PlayStation 5 Details Revealed, Arrives Next Holiday Season

Maybe the Digital Edition is the same price because they include a game or two with it? They could include Spider Man: Miles Morales with the Digital Edition and majority are buying that console. Now, people will say that Sony would lose money because they're packing in the game BUT will make money in the long run because they now got you to be all digital. This is just my own wild guess.

Realistically, yeah will probably be a price difference but im no longer expecting $400 and $500. Instead, im expecting $500 and $600.

Here's the thing, neither company has revealed the price because they don't want to be the one that reacts. I do believe that Microsoft should reveal the prices. If Series S is $300 and Series X is $500, I would announce that at their July event.

Put the pressure on Sony. They have to match it or come close. They can't out at $500 for both or $500 and $600 respectively. Have to wait and see what they do. It's very interesting because I had Sony doing a second console of any kind at 0% until the Slim/Pro models years later. Didn't expect two consoles at launch.

I will be more surprised if the consoles are $400 and $500 than $500 and $600. But again, we'll see.

If you have physical PS4 games I guess you’re SOL if you get the digital PS5 with backwards compatibility.

You don't normally see a system coming with a game in till later on. Wow i think there is no way 500. 400 for digital 500 for physical or 450 for digital. Xbox might be 600 being that it is more powerful. At worst i see xbox sx and ps5 both being 500 that is same price. No way sx will be less.

Yeah if you're getting digital PS5, you're better off just selling your PS4 games or keeping your PS4.

Hopefully PS4 digital purchases transfer over. It'll suck for those who have big catalog of digital games and they don't transfer over. But even then, what if most of your PS4 digital games are not BC for a long while. That'll be even worse because you couldn't sell it

If I HAD to bet money on a price point, it would be $499 for disk and $399 for digital. If im right, im getting digital and using the $100 I saved on an external drive.

True. Game packed in hasn't happened in a very long time. We'll see about the price. Xbox Series X will definitely be $500 but their cheaper 1080P console will most likely be $300. A potential $200 price difference is huge for casuals when the holidays hit and with the vast majority still playing on a 1080P HD TV, it will be a huge seller.

But we'll see. I'm buying the disc versions for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 so im definitely hoping neither go past $500.

I'll be waiting for the slim version. The showcase was fun and there was some cool looking stuff, but not enough to entice me to go in day 1. Plus my backlog goes back generations. I've got plenty to play. Days Gone 2 is really the game that would entice to buy a PS5 at this point. But we are probably looking at 2022 at least for that.

Now the other wild card is whether or not the rumored Mass Effect trilogy remaster is a PS5/XSX only release. That could get me to bite.

A good few of us PC guys tried to tell you in the Assassins Creed thread that the consoles are not going to be pushing out many 60 fps games, especially at 4k. The consoles are going to be pretty powerful, but the GPU's shipping with them are going to be weaker than the top of the line cards that have been out for a year now on PC, and with the 3000 series cards coming out, the consoles are going to be an entire generation behind soon after launch basically. The horsepower is simply not there to realistically expect 60fps to become the norm with how console graphics are often tuned, especially at 4k. We're still probably at least an entire generation away, unfortunately, from 4k-60fps becoming more of a consistent possibility.

No way this system will be $399.

My best guess is $449 minimum for the digital and $499 for the disk drive.
