    Re: Next-Gen Sports Console

Just off my experience with ps4 pro vs Xbox one x its interesting I get 2k on ps4 pro because on Xbox the game would have random frame rate drops at certain parts of the game on broadcast cam that i never see in the ps4 pro version. My only gripe about the ps4 pro version tho is that its the only game i play that causes my ps4 to make the loud jet noise.

Graphically though both games look exactly the same no matter which one has more power, all this is still up for debate since we technically have no examples to compare on the new consoles. But performance def varies on both consoles from my experience with nba2k19 2k20 and now 2k21.

Right now I'd probably say PS5, but I'd wait to see actual comparisons in performance and stuff to be sure. It'll be close if there's any console better than another. Otherwise you look at what ecosystems you might invest in (Game Pass vs. Sony, etc)

The fact that series X has locked numbers on the GPU and CPU and a better GPU and slightly better CPU should tell you what you need to know about how sports games will run next gen.

        MLB THe SHow
        NBA 2K
        Madden
        Fifa

Those games will have the chance to be best on X just based on spec sheet.

PS5 has variable clocks which means when GPU stresses the CPU drops in performance

Series X has both CPU and GPU clocks locked at all times

I'm intrigued by DF's writeup after release...I'm in the Xbox Ecosystem anyways, but always wonder how this'll go.

I’m going to assume Sony won’t let the show run better on the Xbox.

The SSD in the PS5 is awesome and is better than the one on the X but those advantages will not reflect on multi plat games like sports games.

That advantage will show on first party titles that sony can leverage that advantage. 3rd party will cater to lowest common denominator and the only advantage in third party games you might get is a slight increase in loading times but I am very skeptical of that since MS has implement their Velocity feature for their SSD that is suppose to narrow that gap sustainably with ps5 ssd

I just do not trust variable clocks profiles in a console

When the GPU is maxing the CPU is downscaling their power and vice versa

On the X the clocks are locked and that variable denominator will not take place and at the end of the day they have more CU

That would be a good assumption that I can agree with

So is it safe to say 3rd party games will perform better on xbox this gen? I'm sure graphically both systems will be about even.

The fact that Sony has smartshift profiles means there will be times where the difference is small and others where the difference is big

                    MS has locked clocks

Sony decided to do variables so their 10.2tflop console under high end games can fall to about 8.3 tflops where the X will always no matter the game remain at 12.3

But thats the thing sports games don't really fall into the high end gaming category so just how much do these numbers matter I wonder for sports games.

                          Depends on the game

I believe that MLB the SHow is very demanding and so is NBA 2K next gen

It could mean that X has native 4k 60fps and PS5 1800p 60fps or both at native 4k and the x will keep the fps higher

The SHow I expect will be native 4k 60fps on both

Madden I expect to be 4k 60fps on Xbox and 1800p and 60fps on ps5 or both native 4k but the ps5 will have drops in FPS

I would assume that as well lol, and I’m sure it’ll probably have an extra feature on the ps5 that won’t make it to the other consoles, but only time will tell.

NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.

I was wowed by NBA 2K graphics coming from the Xbox and PS3 consoles into the PS4 current generation. Damn, EA Tiburon, and SIE SDS I thought, took the next leap. Visual Concepts took that next step first, and separated it from the older versions. It also had those with the PS camera and the kinect to take still shots and have us scanned as a player feature. Although it did have its quirks, it was a cool tool. I do agree with Rockie though going into next gen.
