    Game Streaming Services Discussion

Was going to rename the Google Stadia thread, but lets give this a new start for news and discussion.

The big players, may expand this list to include supported resolutions and platforms later:

    Amazon Luna Amazon Luna
Amazon has a small library and a partnership with Ubisoft so your games owned in UPlay as well as games provided by your Ubisoft+ subscription are also available.
    Price: $5.99/mo

Microsoft Cloud Gaming (xCloud / Game Pass)
A number of Game Pass titles are available for streaming primarily on Android devices, with betas underway for PC and iOS.
Price: $14.99/mo (part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate)

    Google Stadia
The once-ambitious plans for Stadia have been reduced to merely continuing to run the service as-is it seems.
    Price: $9.99/mo

    Geforce Now
Provides you access to some of your purchases from other services and adds games every Thursday to a large library (800+ games)
    Price:$9.99/mo (has a free tier)

    Playstation Now
Provides a large selection of Playstation (PS2-PS4) titles for streaming and download depending on the title and platform
    Price: $9.99 ($59.99/yr)

    Re: Game Streaming Services Discussion

So a couple bits of news today:
    • MS Cloud Gaming beta invites going out to iOS and PC users.
    • MS and Rainway partner up, Rainway provides free services to remotely access games on your PC, Microsoft is leveraging them to get games playing in browsers. That's a big deal, because Stadia and Luna are two of the most accessible services IMO in large part because of how quickly you can get into a game - no apps or installs required, click and go.

      Re: Game Streaming Services Discussion

Finally tried the Microsoft Cloud through my phone last night before bed. Played a little 2k21. There was a slight amount of input lag, but nothing making it Impossible to play. After a few minutes you'd adjust and be 100% fine. Even playing on ball defense was completely fine.

I wasn't even playing on the high speed wifi, so that was promising as well. I wish it was the next gen version of 2k, but oh well. I may try it tonight running on the wifi and see how it plays. I'm hoping to get an invite for the PC application so I can give that a try, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't know how exclusive they are going to keep that.

Tomorrow when The Show is on the service I'll be giving it a try on the phone at the least. I may download and install BlueStacks and play it on my PC via that if I'm not invited by MS yet.

If The Show plays no worse than 2k did, then I think it will be perfectly playable. I'll give it a try and see if I can continue to play with the pitch speeds as fast as they go. That might not be possible with the slight delay, but if it is as good or better than 2k the game will be easily playable while streaming.

If only that could result in modding for The Show

Bleh, playing on the phone and BlueStacks both had too much input lag to play The Show. I'm not sure the actual PC app will be much better, but hopefully we see soon.

Ran fine for me in Bluestacks 4 (didn't try 5), but didn't hit the console at all to be able to compare. I also haven't played The Show in several years, so had no idea really what I was doing and that added more lag to my inputs than the latency was.

Going to mess with it tomorrow on the Series X then revisit it in Bluestacks.

Hmmm, I'll give it another go tomorrow. May have been bad luck or something. It definitely had more of a delay than 2k had when I messed with it last night.

In case you missed your invite, you'll be able to try the PC beta here - https://www.xbox.com/en-US/play

No luck for me yet. Some saying it's very beta and not performing well, others with better impressions.

Got an invite to the pc/ios beta. This is the experience I want from this service, worked well with few exceptions.

Edit: On Reddit there's a bit of commentary about it being really bad the first few hours it was live today and it suddenly getting better. Good stuff.

I noticed that my swings were late when console streaming to pc beta and early the bit I played on tv, but have to test more

                      Re: Game Streaming Services Discussion

My son & I were playing Knack 2 when I realized I never played the original. I checked the PS Store and saw it for $20 to own or I could stream it via PS Now for free for 7 days and $60 for a year. If Knack had been $5, I would’ve pulled the trigger and never had a second thought. Instead I...

Started a free trial of PS Now. For the price of 1 new game per year, probably going to get a subscription after the trial expires. This is the perfect service for a habitual incomplete gamer. It’s hard to justify $60 for one experience that I may or may not actually finish. It’s easier to justify $60 for 800+ experiences.

The library is insane to me! I feel like I’m stealing; there’s so many games I’ve always been interested in but never spent the time or money to play (and some I have). Ico, God of War, Dead Space, KillZone, BioShock, Red Dead Redemption, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, WWE, Horizon Zero Dawn, FallOut, Borderlands, LittleBigPlanet and on and on and on.

My son has been gaming with me for some months now and we’ve bought a few games (Cars, Monster Trucks, LEGO games), so this also fills that role as the one stop shop for some of those kid friendly games that probably aren’t worth the full price standalone. Also, I had been having to do some serious storage management, so streaming off the cloud solves that problem. (Why is COD like 200GB?!).

I experienced some lag, but for my offline, single player experience it was no big deal. It would be a problem for an online, highly competitive, precision game though. I’m also operating off a weaker WiFi signal, so I was actually impressed with the smoothness. I do wonder what it will do to my monthly internet bill... a quick search says it’s similarly equivalent to movie streaming though.

Yeah, I’m like a kid at Christmas right now. It’s almost too much! But for now... gotta get back to Sly Cooper.

I've spent the last ~9 months working to get Xbox Cloud Gaming (aka xCloud) part of the Xbox app on Windows. We went to Xbox Insiders today: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2021/08/...p-for-windows/

To check it out, open up the Xbox Insider Hub app on Windows and join the Windows Gaming preview.

I at some point downloaded the Xbox Game Streaming (Test App) and it allows me to stream my Xbox Series X to my PC on my network...do you know if this functionality is coming to any other apps anytime soon? When I upgraded to Series X the PC Companion App would only connect to older consoles...

Oh, I'll add that all my android apps have the ability to stream from console....it's just PC that it's not as available anymore but i found that app and it's working great I sneak in Gaming in my office at lunch so it's easier to stream vs. going to bedroom where system is.

It's now part of the Xbox app (for Xbox Insiders). So if you join the Xbox Insider program from the Xbox Insider Hub app on Windows 10, you can stream from the cloud or your Xbox One, X, or S console.
