Out now. The question is do you have it, and if you do, it's a must watch!

Maybe the $3500 price tag was a tad high?

Apple quietly discontinuing flagship device due to lackluster sales

One employee at Chinese manufacturer Luxshare — which is under contract to perform the final assembly for Vision Pro — revealed that the tech giant informed them that manufacturing of the product may need to 'wind down' by November's end.

In fact, industry analysts at Counterpoint Research estimate that Apple only sold around 370,000 of its Vision Pro headsets in the first three quarters of 2024, figures dwarfed by the millions of cheaper Quest headsets sold by its rival Meta.

By contrast, Facebook's parent company Meta sold roughly six million Quest 2 headsets and about three million of its next-gen Quest 3s in the first three quarters of after they were first introduced, according to Counterpoint.

With the holiday season fast approaching, Apple sees no signs of improvement for this flagship device, predicting that only 50,000 or so more will sell by year's end

This, is starting to sound like plan B. However, more like 2027 if not sooner.

Apple’s Future Hinges on Smaller Bets, Rather Than Next Big Thing

Apple still needs to find new sources of growth, of course. The iPhone isn’t going anywhere, but it’s also not fueling the sales gains that it used to. So, what’s the solution?

That’s easier said than done. During development of the Vision Pro, executives aspired for the device to eventually become an Apple Watch-sized hit — something that now seems unlikely. But perhaps a broader line of Vision wearable products (including things like smart glasses, augmented reality spectacles and iPhone-connected head-worn displays) could become a $25 billion business.

visionOS 2.2 Brings Wide & Ultrawide Mac Virtual Display To Apple Vision Pro

The Wide and Ultrawide modes for Mac Virtual Display have now arrived for all Apple Vision Pro owners in visionOS 2.2.

The new modes also appear to require macOS 15.2, the latest version of Apple's Mac operating system, as we weren't able to get it working on macOS 15.1.

Until visionOS 2.2 though, Mac Virtual Display was limited to a 16:9 widescreen virtual display. Now with visionOS 2.2, as Apple announced at WWDC 24 earlier this year, you can choose to expand the display to a Wide aspect ratio, or even to an enveloping panoramic Ultrawide experience. And for all three modes, Mac Virtual Display is now curved.

Apple says the ultrawide Mac Virtual Display has 10K horizontal resolution, as if you have two 5K monitors side by side. The company explained that this is made possible thanks to foveation, where eye tracking is used to prioritize resolution in the region of the screen you're currently looking at.

The Wide and Ultrawide modes for Mac Virtual Display have now arrived for all Apple Vision Pro owners in visionOS 2.2.

The official NBA Apple Vision Pro app now has Tabletop, a diorama-scale virtual representation of the live game you're watching.

Tabletop is currently available for a few games per night, and the NBA plans to make it available for all League Pass games next season.

As with the other functionality of the NBA app, this requires a League Pass subscription, which starts at $15/month.

On Meta Quest headsets, in comparison, 52 NBA games are streamed in immersive 180-degrees (though 2D, not 3D) for free in the US, via the app Xtadium. NBA League Pass subscribers can also use Xtadium to watch any games on floating 2D virtual TV screens in mixed reality using Xtadium's Multi-Game Mode. This mode supports up to nine games simultaneously, and you can also apparently see stats and alerts. But the Vision Pro app's Tabletop feature offers a unique view not yet seen on other XR platforms.
