as far as set top boxes go, i have the hughes platinum set top box. this both recieves the OTA digital signals (from my antenna) and the HD signals from the satellite.

Can you elaborate on this one? So, if I had the HD satelite from DTV, I could buy this top box instead of the DTV HD receiver?

the hughes receiver that i have is usually the one that DTV gives you.. now if you did like i did and bought the dish and receiver separately, then you will have options on what type to get. you can either get the hughes DTV receiver, the samsung, and some others. they will both accept the digital signals OTA from your antenna and from your dish.. just make sure you know which one to get, some of the salesguys don't know a darn thing

I'm still probably a year away from getting an HDTV (I'd like one by next football season). However, I've made an offer on this house and it already has a satelite system installed. It has three "prongs" so it looks like it is a three room dish, I just probably need to get someone out to that house and check out the wiring and whatnot.

send a pic of the dish, it could be one of those old ones that isn't necessarily HD..
