If so, I'd have to disagree with that. I don't know Dre personally but what I can gather by listening to the music and watching the videos he wasn't changing to please anyone but himself. I was really feeling the whole Southern pimp theme Kast had when they first released. I was loving the the Afrocentric feel to Atliens. When Aquemini was released, both those things were gone, and every album they released advanced a little bit more. If anything, I'd say that Dre is the antithesis os sell out. It seems to me that he is very reluctant to keep doing the same old thing just because he knows it will sell. I haven't seen many who take more risks than he does.

Just because he's being different, doesn't mean he isn't trying to sell records. As his image got wackier, and their music became less hip hop and more pop, that's when they really started to sell records.

While that is true, I think Dre changed because he has become genuinely bored with making hip-hop music, not because he wanted to sell records.

I agree. I think it was one of those times where as he took the risk to do something different it paid off, for him and the audience. Like I said, I don't know the guy so I don't know where his head was/is at with regards as to why he changed his image, that's just my opinion.

I agree with the majority here that OutKast is, if anything, the opposite of sell-outs.

Didn't Dre say that he wrote Hey Ya in '97 or '98 but didn't release it for years because he didn't think the hip-hop world would be ready for it?
