"Stop," a first song off the "Take Them On, On Your Own" album, is a great song. Really sludgy, distorted bass line with wall of sound guitars. Good stuff.

Cool. Sounds like the albums should be right up my alley.

Anybody picked up the Jamie Foxx and/or Biggie albums that dropped today? What do you think?

            Re: I Just Picked Up...

I waited to bump this up after Christmas when I was done with all my gift certificates.

Albums I picked up this Holiday Season...
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose: Finally! Awesome album. That's all I can say about it.
My Morning Jacket - Z: Great album. Definitely different from the stuff I had heard before Z (It Still Moves), but its just as good. Great sound. I love the vocals.
SRV & Double Trouble - Texas Flood: I'm really starting to dive into the blues and this album is helping a lot in that area, no wonder its a blues essential.
Mr Lif - I Phantom: Awesome hip hop album. I really enjoy the storyline throughout the album and I like Lif's lyrics and flow. Good throwback to old school hip hop.
Howlin Wolf - Howlin' Wolf/Moanin In The Moonlight: Only listened to the album once, but I love the CD. Another blues album for me, and I have (hopefully) Robert Johnson's Complete Collection on the way.
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene: My first BSS album and its great. I'm really enjoying the indie pop music, much better than mainstream pop, by a 1000 miles. The first tracks are okay, but the rest of the album is superb. The highlights for me come when the girls sing lead (Swimmers).
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced: Listened to the album for the first time last night. Great debut album with a lot of hit songs.
DJ Z Trip - Shifting Gears: Another hip hop album, but very different from Lif's. More like club/dance music than hip hop, IMO. Good album though. The production is sweet, I love the beats and there are some awesome songs (Breakfast Club being my absolute favorite).
Brendan Benson - Alternative To Love: I listened to most songs from the album before I picked it up, but the entire album is pure pop-indie awesomeness. My personal favorite of 2005. Great catchy pop tunes ala the Beatles. Can't wait for his new band with Jack White, The Racontuers.
The White Stripes - De Stijl: Good album. Not feeling it like I have felt the other White Stripes albums on the first listen, but I still like it.
Queens of the Stonge Age - Rated R: Got the album in the mail Friday and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley: Same as above.
Sleater-Kinney - The Woods: Just picked this up today. I was in Circuit City and looked for Feist and Yeahs Yeahs Yeahs, but couldn't find any. So I like for S-L and CC had The Woods, so I picked it up. Haven't listened to it yet though.

            BAM!

What CDs did everybody else get for Christmas?

Also, I picked up Stapp's new album recently to see how he was doing, it isnt half bad.

Next I am looking to get Demon Hunter's "Tripitych"

Yeah, I've definitely heard worse. I'm quite fond of "Surround Me." Some of the stuff is really bad though.

I agree, 3 or 4 are nice, 2 of them I'd say are real good, the rest.....meh.

Got The Strokes "First Impressions of Earth." Seems like more of the same from "Room on Fire." I read a bunch of mixed reviews, all of them saying they were trying to change their sound, but I don't see it all that much. It is there on a few songs, but mostly the stuff falls right in line with "Room on Fire."

Portugal. The Man - Waiter: "You Vultures!"

It isn't released in stores until the 24th I think, but this CD is amazing. It is very chill, and I have listened to the CD over and over for the last two hours straight. If you guys are interested in checking out what it sounds like, I believe they still have music to be listened to on their myspace and purevolume page.

Portugal. The Man's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

My favorite song right now is "Elephants", but "Chicago" and "Waiter" are also really good. Actually, the whole Cd is really good. I advise everyone who is reading this right now to just go check out the links and see what you think. That includes you CM1847, BGarrett, Fresh Tendrils, and all you other music junkies.

I got it as well. I have been looking forward to this CD for awhile. So far, I think it's a little better than Room on Fire and overall a pretty good CD. Seems like none of the reviews I read it online liked it, or Room on Fire, and I don't really understand why. I like both of them, a lot.

With a gift card I just bought Clarity by Jimmy Eat World (if you haven't heard of it, it came out a while ago, like 1996 I think...?). I think it's amazing. There's no one standout song, though; it's all very good.
