    Surround Sound Help

Im trying to hook all my "stuff" up to my surround sound, i have a panasonic dvd/surround sound system, the one with the wireless rear speakers.

my problem is when i hook up my xbox 360's audio to the back of the surround sound, it wont come in surround, just in the front 2 speakers, tv is the same way. the only time it comes in full surround is when im playing a dvd in the thing, with it selected to dts 5.1 not dolby digital, anyone have any idea how to get the 360 and tv to come in surround? i know most tv shows are in surround, but i know xbox 360 is surround right?

    thanks for your help fellas.

All surround systems are DD5.1, as long as you use an optical or coaxial audio cable (the little orange one). Xbox 360 is only going to use optical.

I think the problem you had was that you had DTS selected in the dashboard. Set it to output both Dolby Digital and DTS. The 360 games ONLY output DD5.1, I don't think any output DTS. Also to make sure you set the receiver to "automatically" detect the correct audio, in which case the DD5.1 will override other sound settings (i.e. Pro Logic).

        Good luck!

*Most TV shows are only Pro Logic II surround. The only HD shows that I've found, which are true 5.1 are the Fox sports broadcasts and TNT HD.*

ok heres where i at with this madness, i set the 360 to doby digital 5.1, messed around with the receiver and couldnt find an automatic configure option, whats happening now is when i play a dvd on the 360, front speakers get sound rear are blank. i did a test of all the speakers, everything is working, i have no clue why i cant get this to work. ive tried hooking the 360 audion output(white and red) directly to the receiver as well as through my television. any other ideas?

Are you setting the DVD sound to 5.1 in the audio options menu? As long as you have the optical audio from your Xbox to the receiver and the receiver set to the right input, I don't know why it wouldn't be working.

i think the problem is that i dont have the optical connection from my xbox to my receiver, i only have the red/white. i called panasonic and they said the best i can get with my setup is not true surround sound, just the same sound coming out of every speaker. i can only watch dvd's in surround sound. thanks for the help fellas, guess next thing on my list is a system with optical input......

To get DD 5.1 from your xbox, you will need either the advanced pack or HD pack, and an optical cable.

My current 7.1 Onkyo TX-SR506 with speakers from when I graduated college in 2000 is due for an upgrade.

I've looked at the HTiB: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/reviews...4936?variant=A

Also looking at 5.1 vs 7.1. etc. It is a small area where the speakers cover, which is why I am thinking of going back to 5.1

does anyone have any suggesions? would like to keep it under $1000 if possible.
