    High-Def TV (Cable Hookup Question)

My brother just bought a new High Def TV... He has a surge protector that you can hook the cable up through. He tried hooking the cable up through that, and also to the TV directly. Both ways he could not get a cable signal. He played X-Box on it last night, so its the cable hookup thats the problem. He has the Comcast Digital Cable Box.. Any thoughts and suggestions... ??

    Thanks

You should call the cable company, they might have to send a signal out to your house. Its always usually that.

If he has a box, then he must use the box. The cable from the wall is coming in scrambled and the box is the only way to decode the signal, thus requiring you to use a component/HDMI/DVI connection from the box into your TV.

If you call Comcast, they can provide you with a CableCard (if your bro's TV has the slot) which will allow you to view the cable using only coax. The surge protector will work in this case as well. Of course you won't be able to view HD on the TV unless it has a built-in tuner.

I am using my Motorola box because it's a DVR, when I move I will probably start using the cable card slot, in order to free up an input on the back of my TV.

      Hopefully this helps.
