    Question about Dish HD?

I am currently considering upgrading my dish service to include the HD programming package from dish (9.99 HD Package). However I would like to know what the quality of HD signal you get with Dish. Is it as good as your normal ota HD signals? Is there a better reciever coming out soon that I should just wait for?

They don't have local's yet in HD. So you won't be able to compare the OTA channels since you'll still need to get ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC over the air.

OTA should be better because of the compression for dish, but it should still look good

Im sorry. I wasnt very clear in my question. I was just wondering how the ESPN, Discovery HD, TNT HD, and other HD NET channels looked? Are they comparable to the quality you get with the ota channels?

They are but wait until next year when Mpeg 4 comes out. They will have all new receivers and everything, and I think they'll merge the rest of the voom channels with it too.

Do you know if that will require a new dish?

Im very upset at dish hd. i went from cable to dish, and a very noticible difference. Not only do i not get my local hds, but i also get worse quality, especially tnt hd, which is putrid. Once my contract is up, im back to cable.

Dish HD isn't going mpeg4 as far as I know, only Directv is.

My answer was to your question, OTA will look better than the HD Channels, but I can't really tell the difference with Directv HD channels, unless you are crazy about the video, it looks about the same.

Dish is going Mpeg 4. They have so far the 211, and 411 boxes.

Cable has never had better quality than satellite from pretty much all I've seen.

As far as a new dish, maybe, or maybe an extra one is required, but If I were you, I'd sit tight until things happen in Q1 of 06

From the looks of it the 411's are out already. Can buy from Dishstore.net These I believe are replacing the 811

Thanks for your help. I think you are right about waiting it out. Bowl season in ESPN HD is just so tempting.
