Re: Pitchfork: Top 50 Singles of 2005
I'll usually check out their album reviews just to see what they say. It doesn't really factor into my decision, I just sometimes get a good laugh. It seems as though they consider each Radiohead release post OK Computer as manna from the gods, and I don't trust people who think that way.Comment

With all the play Kanye West "Golddigger" got in 2005 and it was #25? His "Touch the Sky/I heard 'em Say" single was #5 and it wasn't nearly as popular as "Golddigger". Strange ranking.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Well I'm sure their awful rankings aren't based on mainstream popularity, cause there really is no debating which song is better. Heard 'Em Say is on a whole other level than Golddigger, IMO."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

I think Common's Be should be somewhere on that list, i liked Late Registration more, but i still really liked Be and i think it's better than that clipse album or the documentary...Comment

I hate how they mix in mainstream rap with completely underground/indie rock. If they go to great lengths to find out about some new great unsigned band from Norway, why can't they take the time to look a little deeper and find more underground rap? I'm not a HUGE rap fan and don't really listen to much underground stuff, but I find it really hard to believe The Game put out the 5th best rap album this year. It is also a problem when I am an indie rock fan and I haven't heard of a lot of their rock albums on that list, but a novice rap fan(at best) but I've heard of all of the rappers on the list except one(Clipse).
I don't think Illinois is the best album of the year. I think it is likable enough to make a bunch of top 20 lists, but I don't think it is the absolute best of the year. It is too long(22 tracks, at least 5-7 of which are under a minute and equate to musical skits like on rap albums), and too much of the same musical style on the actual songs. He does what he does pretty well, but he doesn't change it up very often. Good album, probably in my top 10 of the year, but definitely not the best IMO.Comment

It's absolutely priceless how they're all "indie" for everything except hip-hop. Damnned morons. Cam'ron and Young Jeezy on there?!?!
They made themselves look like complete fools w. their attempt to mix in some hip-hop."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
