For those with an Mp3 player...some questions

1. Do I just transfer my files to the , or do I need to reburn them into a new folder set up by the installation..Ive heard varying things on this.

2. Can items be taken off once put on? Because Ive heard you cant, but cannot find it factualized anywhere.

3. Is the Ipod really that much better than the Iriver and Dell DJ?

1. You transfer files directly to the MP3 player using a USB cord

2. Yes, songs can be taken off and put back on as many times as you want.

1. Depends on your player. Most players allow drag-and-drop transfers through Windows Explorer, but some make you use their clunky, proprietary software for transfers.

2. Depends on your player and your music. Apple has DRM rules that limit the number of times you can transfer music between a computer and iPod and vice-versa. If you buy songs from someplace like Rhapsody, there also are limits on how many times you can transfer and to which devices you can transfer.

3. I don't think so. I own a 40 GB Creative Zen Xtra that was half the price of a 40GB iPod, and the sound quality is better than the iPod. Yes, the iPod is slightly smaller and has superb, intuitive navigation, but it's certainly not worth the extra $150-200. Your mileage may vary, of course.

1. Just drag and drop

2. Of course, you can delete/add things as much as you'd like.

3. I think the iPod is a giant ripoff, I've had a Dell DJ 30gig for 6 months and I'm in love w. it. I highly recommend it.

To answer that question simply, No. Ipod is the most popular and therefore the most money. It is also the most user-friendly and is a high quality device. There are also more peripherals available for it. The other ones on the market offer a cheaper price with the same sound quality, for the most part. There is no discernable difference in sound quality between the major mp3 players such as the ipod, iriver, creative zen, and so forth. Anyone who says there is either experienced bad headphones/speakers or is biased.

Independent audio testing has shown that the Creative has a better signal-to-noise ratio with identical headphones than the iPod. It's only a matter of five decibels or less, but there is a difference.

I can't speak for other players.

My sister is so damn stubborn. I keep telling her that there are better alternatives than the Ipod, but she too has bought into the hype. She wants to get an ipod video. I suggest the Creative Zen player (40 gig) , but she wants nothing to do with it.

That's why it's a daunting task for any MP3 manufacturer who wants to compete with Apple, even if its products are superior. Apple's lead in marketing hype and sales in the MP3 player market is so large that the term "iPod" has become synonymous with MP3 player, almost like "Styrofoam" for insulating foam or "Kleenex" for bathroom tissue.

I sure don't regret the $175 I saved by buying a 40 GB Creative Zen Xtra instead of a 40 GB iPod, as two years ago a regular 40 GB iPod (iPod Video wasn't out yet) was $400 and my 40 GB Creative Zen Xtra was $225.

Others' mileage varies ...
