Do you honestly think that somebody buys something like this expecting it to NOT be outdated? Nope, this is for upper teens and 20's who grew up with this thing like I did. I think it would be lots of fun to go back and play Contra, RBI Baseball, Ice Hockey, Tecmo Bowl, etc, etc all over again. And don't mention ROM's, they aren't the same.

        720p? 1080i?

That would make it worth it!

My NES still works if somebody wants it. The only games I played were Looney Toons and Duck Hunt.

I understand completely who they are going to be marketing it towards. But it's something that isn't going to be flying off of store shelves anytime soon. It's more of an item one of us would pass in a store, say, "that's pretty sweet," and never give a second thought. Is it a cool idea? Yeah, totally. Is it something that the world was absolutely demanding? Not at all.

Would it be cool to go back and play old NES games? Again, in theory, yes. But when you actually start doing it, you'll realize just how crappy, slow, and of poor-quality most games of the time were. Even if you were to buy one of these, I bet it would have absolutely no replay value and will pop up by the hundreds on eBay within weeks of it's release.

Bottom line? It's a total novelty item that just won't sell. And even if it does, people will just realize how crappy the NES was and how they just threw away $59.

No. "New" cartridges perhaps? The games they put in, was in a brand new unit right? How do the games do once the unit has been used for a couple months or so?

In all honesty, I'd rather buy one of those A/V controller arcade games than a unit and games. I think that approach would work better than this one.

I understand what you're saying... to an extent.

Here's my rebuttle (and this goes with every rant of mine): just because something's a classic, it doesn't make it better than new things... same with movies... same with stadiums... same with fashion.

I may keep it if I want to go back to it, but like everything... it's not that I go with what's "in"... I go with what's better. PS2 & Xbox > NES

And I'm sure some would argue that the NES > PS2 & Xbox. The NES made much more of an impact on the gaming industry than PS2 & Xbox have, just to name one.

Well... sure they made more of an impact. That doesn't make it a better system by any stretch of the imagination.

Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, yet Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron were better African American baseball players. Who would you choose for your fantasy team?

Do you want me to compare airplanes now?

Again... sorry for my "rant". I just don't understand why classics aren't more under the radar than they deserve to be in terms of comparing quality [as opposed to value].

Exactly. Being the first to make an impact doesn't always make something the greatest.

FT, how many times have I heard you refute the fact that Nirvana was the first big Seattle band to break into the mainstream, but in the end were far from being the best?

I never said it was the greatest, I just said others may prefer the system because of the impact it made, which has no doubt influenced the gaming industry to a large extent.

And I don't know how stadiums relate the topic? Or fashion for that matter.

I wonder if this re-incarnated NES will have the same problems of having to blow on the cartridges just to get the game to load up!

I like the idea of reincarnating the NES and maybe it could build a niche following. That's the best that these guys can hope for.

Fine, then just stick with the other things.

What I meant by those two were not the impact necessarily, but how people don't like change because something was a "classic". Even stadium names! I can't TELL you how many people are completely aggravated that The Ballpark in Arlington is now Ameriquest Field. Granted, it doesn't make the stadium better, but it's business... it was bound to happen. I'm sure that it was a classic... that's okay... we all know that. But somebody probably benefits (like the Texas Rangers). So, in the long run, it's probably better.
