RNR was pretty much Ryan's turn for the worse. Gold, Heartbreaker, and Demolition > the Cardinals albums and 29. All the Love Is Hell stuff falls somewhere in between.

      10. L.E.G.A.C.Y. - Project Mayhem
      9. Rapper Big Pooh - Sleepers
      8. Little Brother - The Chitlin Circuit
      7. Common - Be
      6. Kanye West - Late Registration
      5. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
      4. Supastition - Chain Letters
      3. 9th Wonder - Dream Merchant Vol.1
      2. AZ - A.W.O.L.
      1. Little Brother - The Minstrel Show

I actually had a problem making this top 10 list, mostly because I bought a handful of numbers from earlier years. This year, I pretty much bought the entire Wu-Tang catalogue, and much older East Coast stuff. A lot of the albums I have up there are from the Justus League..which either makes me a homer or it makes them the next group of come ups, seeing as there are hardly any NYC cats doing anything (except for Pumpkinhead, but I JUST ordered that CD).

My artist to look for in 06':
      Supastition
      LEGACY
Nas is supposed to drop something hot
Talib Kweli should come out with a gem
Phonte or Big Pooh should be dropping another solo joint
      Mos Def...

My producers to break out in '06:
9th Wonder (should become much more mainstream and produce for radio cats)
ILLMIND (brought some excellent work to Supa's album)
Nicolay (very underrated, but will make his name later next year)

3rd, how does Franz Ferdinand make your list? You a rock fan, just didn't find much you liked this year or is that one of the only rock albums you got this year? Just wondering, it is pretty common to see an all rock list with a rap album(Kanye or Common usually) thrown in, but you rarely see it the other way around.

I'm a fan of other music as well, you probably noted that. But that's the only new rock CD I bought this year and I love it. I just listened to it a second ago.

The only other rock group I REALLY like is Incubus. If this list were just our top 10 fav albums generally, there would def. be more of a variety.

            Yeah..........Justus League/Rhymesayers absolutely ran 2005.

BCC also had a very nice ressurection, IMO.

To all my NC heads on here, since they "New State of Hip-Hop" thread was lost in the EE removal I figured I'd post this here......

You guys really need to check out Brown James. I'd gotten his album (Plain Brown Rapper) a couple of months ago but had no clue he was from NC (Fayetteville to be exact). His sound/style is more NYC. He's got a much different style than LB and Justus League but his album easily the sleeper of '05, IMO. I think it just hit the retail shelves a month ago, but definately check it out. I can't find any type of bio on the kid and have no clue how long he's been in the game.

I didn't know Brown James was from nc but I didn't really like his cd when i listened to it. Of course I probably didn't really pay attention so I'm gonna look for it and listen to it again.

No one seems to like metal here, so I feel it is my duty as a metal DJ to post the top 10 metal albums of the year:

(in no order, artist - album title)
                  Russel Allen - Atomic Soul
Demons and Wizards - Touched by the Crimson King
                  Primal Fear - Seven Seals
Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution
Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet?
                  Opeth - Ghost Reveries
                  Edguy - Superheroes
                  Rob Rock - Holy Hell
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy
                  Trivium - Ascendancy

I'll disagree with Garrett on "Cold Roses." Is it different from Adams' work with Whiskeytown? Yes. Is it worse? No. I think "Cold Roses" is among Adams' strongest work because it's very consistent. There are very few throwaways on the record, if any.

Adams is prolific as hell. He has released three albums just this year. And when a guy releases that much material, there are bound to be duds. But that's not really the case on "Cold Roses." And it was the case on most of the Whiskeytown stuff.

I think Adams is very comfortable with himself on "Cold Roses." I never really got that sense with the Whiskeytown and early Adams solo stuff. Maybe that was part of the appeal of that material, that Adams seemed so tormented. But he sure seemed confident and comfortable during "Cold Roses."

It's a damn good pop record. I read where McCartney was challenged, big time, by the producer of this record, whose name escapes me. He didn't kowtow to Sir Paul and told him which material sucked and which material was worthy. Very few producers have had the balls to be that honest with McCartney because he's such a rock deity, but this producer didn't give a f*ck about Sir Paul's status.

The end result is a finely crafted pop album with some really strong songwriting and tunes. It's a relevant, good album, which is remarkable when you consider McCartney started his rock/pop recording career more than 40 years ago.

NPR's "All Songs Considered," a GREAT weekly music show, has a roundtable this week with its top albums of the year. It's available in podcast form. Usually the show is 30 minutes or so, but this year-ender is nearly two hours of excellent listening.

                            Podcast link: http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podca...siteId=4819413

I got it over the summer, but to be honest I've only listened to it once. So much good crap came out this year it was hard to find time for everything.

I'll have to give it some more spins in the next couple weeks.
