    Music copying question

Is there a company such as Napster or whatever that offers unlimited downloading of songs for a monthly fee?

    Re: Music copying question

Thing about Napster's "unlimited purchases" is you're not actually buying the music you download. You're essentially just renting it. Don't renew your membership each month? Say byebye to what you thought you had downloaded to your computer, those files are no longer playable. Want to transfer them to an MP3 player or burn them to CD? Nope, gotta pay the per-song or per-album price to do that.

I assume you already were aware of that though, given how you stated your question.

Right now, I don't think there is any provider who is offering a flat montly rate for you to actually download and have full access to songs. You're either stuck with Napster's rip-off scheme or using any of the other providers' per-song/per-album rates.

I use allofmp3.com, which you download songs/alubms based on the amount of bandwidth you download. For example, you choose what kind of encoded file you want your music in (mp3, ogg, and bitrate). Songs cost about .10 depending on the size and albums are usually about $1.50-$2.00. It's perfectly legal.

          Fish:

Allofmp3.com intrigues me even though I'm a devoted "obtainer" of music through P2P.

Do you use a credit card for Allofmp3? I'm wary of that since it's a Russian site, and I don't trust the encryption or security from a site based in a country where the mob runs everything.

          Take care,

I use that site too. Works very well and very cheap. You can't beat 8 cents a song.

Isn't that because Limewire is Illegal?

yeah, you burn them to a CD just like any other mp3 you download. If you get them from the site, just download the 192 bit rate version, that the middle quality. That's good enough for a CD.

yeah I have a credit card that I use solely for Internet purchases so I can always keep tabs on it. I haven't had any problems with the site. The way the site works is that you first buy a balance with your credit card, I think $10 is the smallest amount. After you buy the $10, you just download away until your balance is empty. It's pretty nice because you won't have tons of 10 cent charges on your statement, this way is much easier to keep track of.

Now, the only problem I see with the site is that it is a Russian site. No offense to the Russians, but they do not have the same laws as us in North America (not sure where you are from PK). So I imagine it is a possibility that they could just up and disappear and take your balance with them. I don't know what you would do in that situation. So for me, I only give them $10 at a time just in case something happened.
