    We're all tech junkies now

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/12/21/h....ap/index.html

I have to admit we've come along way in terms of technology and the amount of people using it.

I still remember when I was in school, if you had a pager people thought you were a drug dealer. LOL

These days I suspect at least a quarter of kids in Grade 8-12 have a cell phone.

I remember reading a rant elsewhere on cell phones and the person said don't you remember the days when a cell phone was used for ..... making and recieving calls? Now you can go online, text message, etc....

I'm a big fan of tech toys and I can't wait to see what's out there 20 years from now.

Technology is all well and good but I fear that TOO much tech will dumb us all down. I'm sure there are millions of people that would go apeshat if they didn't have their cell phone.

Heh, I usually have the main things they mention by me. I sit there on my laptop, listening to my iPod, playing XBox (the old one cause i'm behind on the times), w/ my cellphone near by. I'm addicted to electronics. I'm not necessarily concerned about it dumbing us down so much as it may make us lazy and "socially-deficient"

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I was actually responding to SPTO but I forgot to hit the quote button. Anyway, It's about the future and how kids get microchips implanted into their heads around the time that they are born. The chips are called "feeds" and they were created to help kids easily find information on the internet but it eventually led to everyone being dumber and coorporations pretty much own the planet.

                  Here's a better explanation:

Re: We're all tech junkies now

Nope Jmood but that sounds like an interesting book. I may have to pick it up even if I have to buy it.

The thing that freaked me out is that a family friend is going to implant microchips in their kitten so that if the kitten runs out the house and is caught then the Humane Society can tell who the cat belongs to.

Then there's the RFID chip. Let's just say that the applications are all well intentioned but it could easily be used for more nefarious means.

Thanks for the book recommendation tho!
