Yamaha YHT-360 Home Theatre System (I Need Help)

I got a Yamaha YHT-360 Home Theatre System for Christmas and have been struggling as far as hooking it up. I prefer to use component video and digital audio for everything. This is a link to the YHT-360 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099395730499

Here are my components that I want to use:

32" Sony Wega non-HD
2 Component cable inputs

XBOX 360

Toshiba RD-XS32 DVD Recorder w/HDD

• Outputs (rear panel):
• Y/Pr/Pb 1 set
• S-Video 2
• RCA-Video 2
• L-R Audio (pair) 2
• Optical Out 1
• Coaxial Out 1
• RF 1 (tuner pass through only)
• IR Blaster C3 IR Control for DBS and Cable boxes
• Inputs:
• S-Video 1 front & 2 rear
• RCA-Video 1 front & 2 rear
• L-R Audio (pair) 1 front & 2 rear
• IEEE1394DV 1 front
• RF 1 rear

I also plan to buy another DVD player to hook up to the unit. I have basic cable that I will be hooking up through regular coax cable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want the best audio and video expierience possible.

Hey, I've got one very very similar to that (I also have a Sony 32" Wega), but I have to go to work in a few minutes. I'll take a look at the back of mine, since I had some major trouble as well, when I get home this afternoon. You have quite a nice setup and you'll be well pleased once you get it working. If you are so frustrated before I can reply, just go to BestBuy and talk to someone in the Home Audio dept. They will show you what to do, even possibly on a model in the store.

Basic plan....Get video into receiver from all sources, then have one connection from the receiver to the tv. Your receiver then acts as a video switcher when you switch between the various sources of the receiver.

Get audio into receiver matching up the audio and video inputs...Don't hook up dvd video to "v-aux" input and hook up dvd audio to "dvd" input, hook them both up to the dvd inputs.

There are many possible ways to hook things up, that's just a basic idea.

Use component for video when possible and use digital optical for audio when possible.

You could have coax go straight to the tv. Hook up all the other components(dvd, xbox, etc) to the receiver and then hook up the receivers's video out to the tv. When you want to watch a dvd, switch your tv's input to the right connection and switch the receiever to dvd or whatever you hooked it up to.

If you wanted to listen to the tv through the receiver, you could hook up the tv's audio output to the receiver also. You may have to mess with the tv's settings to turn off the tv speakers to get this to work as some tv's won't output sound both to the speakers and an audio out.

Take it slow and get one thing working at a time.

You could also hook up the coax to the reciever instead of the tv. I'm not sure how the RF tuner pass thru will work though. You'll probably have to have the receiver on anytime you want to watch tv that way.

Component video where possible. Next would be s-vid, then rca composite, then RF/coax. For audio, optical digital or digital coax where possible. Then rca composite.

I would split the coax cable coming in. One goes straight to the tv, the other goes to the dvd recorder. Then the dvd recorder gets hooked up with component video and digital optical to the receiver. The receiver is hooked up to the tv with component. The 360 hooks up to the receiver with component and digital optical too.

Does anyone know what exact cable I will need to hook the 360 up with digital audio?

Well, after unpacking the receiver, and inspecting the back of the unit, I have decided that I am going to return it. It just doesn't have enough component imputs for me. To hook everything up that I want, and allowing room for things that I plan on getting in the future, it just doesn't fit my needs.

Now the tough part, explaining to my g/f that I need to return it for something else. I don't know how well that is going to go over.

just explain it to her and ask if she has a problem if you take it back and exchange it for another one that has more component hookups.

You're not going to find many more inputs on a receiver, that's what they make component switchers for.

thats an odd speaker hook up. my B&W's hook up like that on their end but that's desirable with only two wires to hook up. 10-12 wires wouldnt seem like it'd work too well.
