The story is told through two peasants the lowest characters in the movie like star wars and they bicker at each other throughout the movie. Basically having a love hate relationship much like.....drum roll...R2D2 and C3P0. Theres a princess in the movie that was the base for princess leia in star wars..the japanesse samurai code is much like the force and the jedi. Theirs an editing transition that Kurosawa uses that George Lucas took. Umm the movie starts out on this open desert with the two peasants walking and they split up cuz they are made at each other much like R2 and C3P0. And the opening long shot looks like im on tatooine(star wars desert name in first movie?) The cinematography is so smilliar to star wars even some of the music! Theres a guy in the movie that was quite possibally the base for yoda even looks like him. The list can go on...and the movie came out in 1958, 19 years before Star Wars hmmm.
Anybody ever see Hidden Fortress aka Kakushi-toride no san-akunin? or Star Wars lol

The new triogly is jacked straight from Ancient Rome's history, only with Jedi added. -

Didn't Lucas base his movies off of the Star Wars books though? Maybe it's the writer of these books that should be blamed for ripping off ideas...
(I don't have a whole lot of Star Wars history knowledge here, so I could be completely wrong)Comment

Originally posted by SPTOUm..........Yeah very wrong. Star Wars was Lucas' idea. The books came after the first trilogy. Lucas also jacked a lot of elements of the old movie serials. SW is probably the most successful movie(s) that have borrowed otehr elements of other/better movies.

Lucas has admitted many times in the past that Star Wars was greatly inspired by Hidded Fortress.
If you get the Criterion version of Hidden Fortress, there's a documentary/interview with Lucas on there where he talks about how and why he copied a lot of shots from the Hidden Fortress.Comment

Yeah he said it greatly inspired him and mentioned the shots but believe me he didnt mention everything he "borrowed". Just like Tarintino he copies alot from the japenesse culture.-JoshComment

Originally posted by BirdsonbatExactly what I was about to say. Kurosawa knew about it. It was different no than Sergio Leone remaking Yojimbo into A Fistful of Dollars, or a lot of Kurosawa's movies in the first place which were using samurai to tell stories and ideas from Western movies and books. Lucas wanted to tell a Kurosawa samurai story, only in space.-JoshComment
