yup he's sick and you'll be surprised what he looks like, seeing him in concert soon. Also check out the man right now and thats Damion Marley. Halfway tree and his latest album Welcome to Jamrock. But if you are just starting there's no one better than Bob. You'll be doing yourself an injustice if you don't get atleast his greatest hits.Comment

Re: Reggae recommendations?
Bob Marley -- "Legend." It's the greatest hits package of the greatest reggae musician ever.
The list of reggae artists starts with Marley and goes from there.
Other suggestions for classic, roots reggae:
Peter Tosh
Lucky Dube (a bit poppy, but good)
Burning Spear
Alpha Blondy
Black Uhuru
Steel Pulse
UB40 (Pop reggae, but reggae, nonetheless)
Jimmy Cliff
Toots and the Maytals
Sean Paul isn't pure roots reggae. It's dancehall music with a reggae beat. Same with Matisyahu. It's toasting over dancehall music with a reggae beat.
Enjoy!
Take care,

Re: Reggae recommendations?
Originally posted by PSUI think he's overrated... overall he's not bad but far from a star. Also like pk said; Sean Paul is not really raggae, he's more hiphop then raggae.. and Matisyahu same thing he's not really raggae either (not true raggae).Comment

Re: Reggae recommendations?
Interesting topic. I got a book for Christmas about the history of reggae and the influence of reggae in music. I think it's a vanity publishing tho (i'll check the web, If I find an e-seller for the book i'll post link at the end) I even got the Author's autograph LOL!
Anywho most of my picks were mentioned but how bout Beanie Man and Jimmy Cliff. There's someone else i'm thinking of but can't remember his name.
BTW PK I dunno if i'd call Alpha Blondy reggae. I think he's more african music with reggae overtones.
OK here's the link for the book Amazon tho there's only one copy left in stock so here's the Publisher's site tho it's a tad more expensive there (tho it's CND dollars)
EDIT: Ok I remember the guy's name now SHABBA RANKS!Last edited by SPTO; 01-21-2006, 06:03 PM.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
