Does anyone watch Deadwood?
I saw an episode of season 2 on HBO the other day, and I liked it, so I picked up the Sesason 1 DVD set. What a great show. Excellent cast, very well done.

Re: Does anyone watch Deadwood?
Has anyone heard a reasonable explanation for the profanity on this show? Because, even for HBO, there's a ton of profanity on this show and I highly doubt that characters in the old west used some of the words you hear on this show. But I've heard that the producers of the show have done a lot of research to make sure the dialogue on the show is authentic.
The most reasonable explanation I've heard is that the characters on Deadwood were some of the worst, most profane people you'd want to meet in the old west. But back then, words like "crap" qualified as obscenities. Obviously nobody is going to blush hearing a word like "crap" today, so to scale the language to modern times it has to sound like the worst, most profane language its current viewing audience has ever heard.
So while nobody back then would actually use those words, or curse that often, the language in Deadwood is meant to sound as awful to a modern audience as a word like "crap" sounded to people back then. Which makes sense, I guess....Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.Comment

Re: Does anyone watch Deadwood?
For anyone that watched the series in entirety: does it get a proper finale?
I'm thinking of adding this to the long list of classic shows I never watched, but don't want to end up wasting my time."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Does anyone watch Deadwood?
Sometimes absolutely great stuff, sometimes not so much. My favorite scene was the fight between Dan and the Captain.

Re: Does anyone watch Deadwood?
I thought I heard about it not having a proper finale, but I also hear how great the acting and overall performance was throughout the series.
It'll be a while before I even have the chance to watch it, so I'm sure by then I'll watch it for what it is and not worry that the story isn't completed.
Thanks."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Does anyone watch Deadwood?
After finally watching Oz this past winter, this is the next series I hope to go through. Heard very good things about it, have loved pretty much every HBO show, and am on a Old West kick thanks to Red Dead Redemption.
Perfect storm to make me want to spend a week watching this show.Comment
