Re: If this happened to my child

This is probably being blown way out of proportion. I would like to know just how long this went on. And also, could he just have refused to sit on the floor?

Like jraider said, you guys are acting like this teacher performed a horrendous act on the kid.

As a student I like teachers like this, that I can joke around with. If they tease me, I play along and get back at them. It's all in good fun.

Same here, I love to joke around with the cool teachers I have. My current chemistry teacher will make a joke about someone, and they'll joke back, it atleast makes the class exciting and interesting.

Now, I'm not sure any of my teachers would "force the student to sit on the floor", etc.

I'm certain that these details have been blown out of proportion. I certainly hope the kid did not have to take a test on the floor, thats embarrasing as well as probably difficult to concentrate.

The kid needs to adjust his panties and move on. Unbelievable how sensitive we have become.

I mean holy crap...did his mom forget to dress him up in his invisible shield that morning?

Maybe he should sue for emotional suffering.

I think the Teacher did a nice job. How did your teachers teach segregation and prejudice when you were in school?

When I was in school the teacher, for no reason, separated the glass between light eyed and dark eyed students. He let the light eyed kids go to recess early. We got to go to lunch first. We got extra gym time. This went on for a week till parents started calling the school to kill the teacher. When the lesson was clear, the Teacher was praised and lauded for his lesson plan.

I think the teacher in this story took a great opportunity to teach a lesson on racism, segregation, hate crimes.... I applaud him.

But it only works if the students know it's a demonstration. If they knew it was a demonstration, then yes, I share your viewpoint.

However, if it's just throwing paper at someone who wears a different jersey for fun, that is wrong.

Actually, I think it would be the opposite.

If I knew it was a demonstration, I wouldn't take it so seriously. If I didn't know it was a demonstration, I'd be in an uproar.

Not knowing it's a demonstration would hit me a lot harder.

Of course, this is under the assumption that this entire thing was a demonstration on segragation, racism etc...

My thought all along was that this was a "teaching opportunity". The door was wide open for the teacher to walk through with this idea and he walked through it.

If only you knew how absurd that very statement is. Teachers, untouchable. Hilarious.

Anyways, I'm with MattG on this one. I'm sure the incident wasn't nearly as serious or traumatizing as it has been made out to be. There was probably playful ribbing and nothing more.

I think this is a made up story, I would have messed with the kid as his teacher and if a teacher of mine happened to be a fan of the other team, I would mess with them. We actually did this with a few of my teachers and even the principal of one of my schools, as he would sing the Redskins fight song on monday if they won. But maybe that was just because of the type of schools I was in and we actually talked with the teachers.

Dude should've been a Raiders fan and he wouldn't have had to worry about any of this...plus he'd hate the Broncos.

Of course not. Raiders wouldn't have been in the playoffs.

No. What I'm saying is if they never knew it was a demonstration, especially afterwards, they think that it's OK to do that.

However, if the teacher said, immediately afterwards, "OK, class, did you see that? That's an example of discrimination." and had them write a essay on it or something, that's fine, cause the class knows that it was just a demonstration.

I never meant they would know beforehand.
