    Wireless Linksys Router help

    I have two problems:

    Problem 1

Alright I have been having trouble connecting to people on my friends list to play online games with my xbox 360. i can connect through matchmaking, but i cant with my friends. i always get a disconnect error.

so I run a test on the xbox 360 dashboard that comes up with results.

I come across one section called NAT (Network Addres Translation) and my 360 tells me i have a 'moderate' rating.

I can click into further detail, and it tells me "that this test indicates the type of NAT that my router or gateway is using. Devices that perform strict or moderate NAT can limit the ability of gamers to find each other, particpate in sessions, or hear each other on Xbox Live."

So that has to be my problem. It then tells me a little bit lower that if my rating is 'moderate or strict' i need to replace my router with an Xbox Live Compatible device.

I am using the run of the mill Wireless Linksys G router, and i have my 360 hardwired to one of the ports on the back.

My friend has this exact router, and has no problems with it, so i'm slightly confused.

    Any tips there?

    Problem 2
The router im using was bought last year by my old roommate. it was set up in his room, and he did all the installation. Well, he moved out this year, but told us to keep the router.

HOWEVER, he changed the password and username to get in the router when you type 192.168.1.1, but he has since forgotten what he changed them to.

Now, I know there HAS to be a way to get back into this thing without the user name and password, because Linksys just wouldnt just let this be a useless piece of technology if the password or user name was ever forgotten.

Does anyone know a way where i can go in and change those settings?

    thanks,
    dag

I'm not sure about problem 1, but as for problem 2, well im not sure either. But I think there is a mass reset which resets everything back to the default settings. How to do this, once again I'm not sure, but if you check out the Linksys website, they should be able to tell you.

I guess I wasnt a really big help, im not sure...

Problem 1: Call Linksys. I had the same problem with my old Linksys router as it kept on coming back as strict. I called them and told them that my NAT was messed up. They took me through a few things and then boom, it was Open. For the second problem, I would ask linksys. I would be willing to bet that they have your name and password on file there.

In my experiences, they've been really good with technical support online. I never really had to wait long outside of the sketchy English, I had a good experience with them.

i have a linksys wireless g router too. to do a reset, stick an ink pen or pencil in the little reset button on the back. i think you have to leave it in there for 10 seconds then it will restart. then i believe you enter the default password linksys with no username. I am going by memory because i am not at home right now so i might be a little off. you probably can go to the linksys website and check out the user manual.

thejake is right. Reset it that way and then configure it. You should be able to plug your 360 directly into it and it should work fine. You also might want to update the firmware as well since you're going to reset it.

            alright.... router reset.... check

            now i have more problems....

When I test my xbox live connection now, i do not make it to the NAT section. Now it fails at 'MTU' (Max Tranmission Unit) It says Xbox Live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364, and that I need to change it in my router settings... of course, i dont know how to do that....

Two important things to remember with computers...

                  1) If routers dont work, upgrade the firmware before trying anything else.

                  2) If a game doesn't work on the PC, upgrade the drivers before doing anything else.

Doesn't matter, you'll still be able to login to a Linksys Router with admin/admin regardless of whether the log/pass has been changed.
