to hook an mp3 player of to your car you need one of three things:

    1) An audio input plug. Most likely you don't have this, they aren't very common. If you do, it costs like $6 to get the wire to go from the MP3 player headphone jack to the CD player

    2) A tape deck. You can buy a $20 CD to tape converter for this. Just plugs into your MP3 player headphone jack and is connected to a tape casset that you put in the stereo.

    3) An FM transmitter. This is what you have to do if you/she doesn't have an audio input plug or a tape deck. Most expensive option, I would suggest the Belkin II which you can get at Wal-Mart for around $30. Most expensive and the least reliable, but most people are stuck with no better option.

You also can use the port on the back of your radio that hooks to a cd changer/aux. On a Pioneer, it is called an IP Bus, if you have one, you just need a converted that you plug into the unit and then you can plug your mp3 to.

I've used a FM Transmitter for 2 years now, never had a single issue. Every now and then there are drop outs and static, but nothing major.

Yeah, I don't have problems with mine either. It is still the most expensive option and it is the only one that will have any issues at all with static, but it still works really well.

When I used batteries with mine, I had some problems and really had to keep the mp3 player iin a perfect position to get it to sound good.

But once I started using the ciggarette lighter to power it, it's been perfect, I get great quality.
