Opinion Needed

hey guys im new to the whole router bit, bit i was tired of fighting with the wife about me being online gaming and her wanting to check her email. So i bout a Linksys Network Everywhere Cable/DSL 4-Port Router NR041. from walmart and it was easy to set up but i want to know is there anything i need to do to protect from possible harm, ie viruses or anything?

Congratulations. A router is the best kind of firewall. I would recommend passwording the login to the router and checking periodically that only the programs you want have access to the internet. Be careful of the sites you visit, and what you download from them. A router isn't going to really block viruses per say, but it's going to protect your computer from much of the outside influence from the net.
